I did this one about a week ago, before I did agent 26. She's wearing a scuba unit that extracts oxygen out of the water. Let me know what you think.

Wow... I'm such a fan of your work Agent44! It always amazes me when you most pics like these, I love both your recent agents. I have to say that I stared at the straps and buckles on your last one for a LONG time because I thought the texture was so good!

I like the background on this as well.

[edit: One thing that I've liked about your images is the fact that the outfits your characters wear look like actual outfits. Too many characters are drawn into clothes/armour that would be either impossible to get into or impossible to move comfortably in - your characters don't. And I think that gives them a sense of realism that most artists miss when creating images like these Again, great work!]

I really love your stuff! Never seizes to amaze me and always looks great! Even did a search for past posts I might have missed!

There is just one thing I'm noticing that seems to be prevalent when you draw female faces. The space between the bottom of the nose and the lips, and the lips and the chin is generally too long. It tends to overly elongate the face, which in my opinion makes them a bit less attractive than they actually are. Another solution would be to enlarge the lips, which would effectively reduce the those spaces as well. Either way, I think you're doing awesome work!

Actually, here's sort of what I mean. I tried to tweak it without losing the general look I think you might be going for. AGain, just my taste I suppose, disregard otherwise.





Generally, eyes a tad smaller, heads a bit smaller, space of upperlip/chin reduced, and maybe lips slightly enlarged...

I appreciate the comments.
Jezebel- thanks, I agree about the impossible clothing. I try to look at reference of real clothes and how they fit on people, like clothing magazines and what not.

Liquid!- so that's what the problem is. I always thought there was something a little off too, but I just couldn't put my finger on it. Thanks for pointing that out, I'll work on that in the future.

burnOut- I'm not sure just yet. I can't think of what else to call them so I just stick with "agents".

I like these agent. Her butt was cut off in the other forum. Has it always been there? I like this style though. Reminds me of a cross between J. Scott Campbell and Joe Chiodo.

I really like agent 25's eyes...neat. the whole concept/execution (as with '26) is
excellent. The only thing I have to offer
(and its worth what your paying-heheheh!)
is that you could add the same belt/webbing
texture to the aqua-lung rig here that you
had with agent 26's belts. just a thought,
and if I were you I would probably tell me
to pound it.... Will there be an agent
24? 27? Please, keep 'em comin'!

Very good stuff agent! We've been paying attention here at work to what you post, it's usually really cool! I like the variation in specular between her jumpsuit and shoulder pads. very nice!

Agent - It's really good to know that you focus on things like that. You don't know how many times I have looked at a female character and wondered how in the hell she put on a big ol' block iron bikini... sheesh Or when a male character has these giant armour shoulder-things on that look completely inflexible... yet they are swinging a sword over their shoulder or something. I really like your style, keep up the good work.

How old are you if I may ask? (sorry if this has been asked before and I missed it)

Ben - I'm aware of that... but I'm talking about drawings and not actual armour. Many artists don't remember to illustrate the screws and joints to make something that's functional. The more experienced an artist becomes, the more they become aware of the importance of those details.

I'll have to agree with Jezebel that details of a character are what help make them come alive and seem more real. Too many times I've seen impossible designs for characters and objects and it just doesn't help the believability of the image. It all depends on what the image is being used for but personally I'd have to say that design calls for a melding of art and functionality and it's those that can do it well that really stand out. This kind of thinking helps when it comes to doing 3D work in particular since it's a bit harder to fake design flaws in 3D than it is with 2D mediums...at least that's what I've found.

To get to the image, yet another great pic from you Agent44. Like I've mentioned in the other thread, I really dig those pock marks...reminds me of Vortx's texturing of his concept stuff. It really works for me and the design of the suit looks great, too. It doesn't hurt that the character is very cute as well...yes, I've been by this thread a couple times now as well The color and texture schemes are great. Keep up the good work, look forward to seeing more!

Bah! Don't listen to Liquid! about your characters being not feminine enough in the face. Chins are represenative of strong character... or people raised high up in the mountains.. hehe.

Just look at Aeon Flux, her face is not only gaunt and skeletal, but she has a very exaggerated mandible to go along with that pointy nose. Despite these very ugly features she is cool and sexy, though she is scary way before she is sexy.. urh, and when she's sexy, you'd better get outta there - it's not pretty in the conventional sense. Still, it makes her cool and we know for FACT that Aeon is not a cheerleader superhero.

Now, if you really wanna know how freakin entrenched in Maxim and Playboy that the art industry is... imagine a female superhero that has the face of that plain girl that was in your freshman highschool class, you know the one... straight A's, small tight knit friend group with similar females, doesn't participate in sports... is 30 pounds overweight - yep that did it, even though I'm writing this, I can see most of you grimace at the mere thought. It's a learned response I think.

The only non-cheerleader Barbie-doll female I have seen recently in the field that breaks slightly from this mold is the lead female character in The MAXX. She has a more than good sized posterior that doesn't quite match her thin waist and pouty lips, but it's a start. If anybody else can name some non-cheekbone/25" waist/blond females that are strong characters, please correct me and do so with a vengeance.

So my message to you is keep your hold on the imperfect female character. The PURE tidal force of coercion that our Western media places on females may not have gotten total hold over you. What that means is that, in the future, you will be able to create more unique female characters that break away from the mold and have readily imaginable personal pain, emotion, conscience and maybe some repressed childhood memories... you know what I'm taling about... the good stuff in stories!

This is not a knock at you Liquid! You did indeed make both agents look cuter. I just gotta stand up for what I beleive in and for what I want to be entertained by in the next 20 years. I've played Planescape Torment and that game has spoiled me silly for depth and character requirements in art and games. Damn you Black Isle - perfectionist b****rds! (notice how I shift the blame to a 3rd party to clear the flame war-bait

Oh geez, and not to take any of the steam away from your pic in this rant, agent44, so I must end saying that agent 26 and 25 are great! Your experiments in design have paid off big, and I mean in the ways that can prove to others that you're doing well with the drawrings! Keep this mad work up! I dig all the details that accent the "Techno Glory" style used for all of the gizmos and gear. I'm gonna get a glass of water and take 2 Inspirin(tm). :P

Agent, Your work is awesome! What do you think about maybe making another agent and then doing a group pose of them all? I'd personally like to see what her breathing apparatus looks like.

The only crit I have is about the head. It looks a bit weird, big eyes etc. I liked the head from your last agent better. But I like this body better... NICE!

excellent stuff! I do agree with Liquid. Your females are very adorable but they could be even more by a little more attention to the proportions of the face... It's all just nitpicking, really as your work is truly great!

Chapel- she's always had a butt.

SilverSpy- Actually, I didn't use a filter for the background. I zoomed in to 1600% on part of the picture and then used a program called snagit (it'll take a picture of what ever is on your screen and convertit to a gif, tiff, jpeg or whatever) to take a picture of what was on my screen, then adjusted the color balance.

craig- Pound it! just kidding. I would have done that same texture if I had thought of it first. You see I did the blue one second. I'm currently working on agent 27

Magpie- I'm pleased with how that turned out. I saw a shirow peice that inspired me to color it like that.

Jezebel-I'm 14. just kidding, I'm 23

Sergenth- good point, I agree in that a little variation goes a long way.

Nocturnal- I have thought of doing that. We'll see if I have enough time or motivation.
