Try to make more use of the dodge/burn, on the legs for example, you only did one line of highlight, but it doesnt look "real". It seems all so flat. So is the background, try to use more effects and objects to suggest a 3d environment.
Good luck,

ok dhabih, this would be the time to ban the uber-eleet idiot.
heroestcg: the arms head and torso above the belt look nicest. below the belt things start to get a bit dogdy.
you could also spend a lot more time on the background, and try to make it something more interesting and something that the character interacts with. avoid using simple gradients (except sometimes for skies) and difference cloud filters. it's more useful and rewarding to learn how to draw your own clouds, and people can pick out rendered clouds in an instant anyways. there are tons of good links to tutorials on here. do a search for 'tutorial' and i'm sure you'll find something helpful.

Thanks so far for the replies (to well almost all of them). I'm trying to go through the tutorials. But it's hard to find the time (again the 2 job/4 kid thing...in fact I'm on my way to job 2 in about 10 min). Yes I agree I like to draw my own clouds. I did them myself for the 1st pic (not posted, but here it is: first try Got some crits from people at work, so I changed it up. Someone didn't like the fact that he didn't have "pants." Another didn't like my red sky. Oh well... |
