Here's the finished version of the Beast Rabban.

EDIT - Updated version

Thanks to Ben Barker for advice on the lighting.

i like the markings on his shoulder piece thingies.

though the face seems to stand out too much, mostly cause the contrast between the skin color and the cloth, alotta saturation on the skin, so much of it it becomes disturbing to look at.

dig.

That looks pretty nice! I agree with faust that the head really stands out too much because of the high value and contrast compared to the rest. His shoulder pads are not the same width. But aside from that, it's very nice.

faustgfx: Yeah, there is way too much contrast there. Hmm, not sure how I'm gonna fix this one.

Frost: Hiya, seems everyone's coming back now. I'll re-adjust one of the shoulder pads.

Optical: Thanks. Hmm, are those comics you mentioned? I might check them out.

ceenda: make a selection out of the face (quick mask + paintbrush propably works the fastest for you), ctrl-shift-u (desaturate), ctrl-shift-f (fade filter) and set the slider to ~15-30%.

Here's an updated version that should reduce the contrast somewhat.

Optical: Cool, I know what you mean.

faustgfx: That's quite neat! I used it on the background instead and it had quite a good effect. Nice one.

Danny: Hiya Danny, there's a full sized version here (about 800x800) but it's not very detailed, hence the resizing.

Ben Barker: He he, they are indeed.

el tigre: Wow! It's a shame Bitmap Brothers never rivalled the success of the Speedball 2. Apparently, the new version they did was quite a disappointment and came out for Playstation only. BTW - don't get Guinness extra cold, just get regular Guinness and sit in the beer garden, it'll be extra cold in no time.

ToasT 01: Thanks for the comments. I've lightened the background in the latest version. Cheers!

ceenda, nice work. Like the detail on the armour. The second version with the coloured bg helps to stop the head from standing out too much but it still seems to stand out a little, maybe it's just me.
Didn't he have boils on his face in the film?

Cheers for the comments guys. I think I'll try working on some new areas for a bit (i.e. landscape painting, technical stuff and perhaps some more traditional stuff).

Jaymo: Thankyou.

Rinaldo: As I said on ICQ, I liked the scene alot, the clouds just need a bit more dimension with regard to the lighting. Check out some of Loki's artwork as he seems to have a way of putting a nice dimension into the clouds in his pics.

Zoso: Cheers. I'm thinking about doing a character sketch of Piter de Vried.

Axl: Yeah, the contrast is still way too high I think. BTW - that's the Baron Harkonnen you're thinking of. Check out spooge's Baron pic in the Work In Progress forum page. A lot of the Baron's aspects (i.e. flying) were introduced by David Lynch for the film.

Lord Arioch: Glad you like it.

ReSistanZ: Thanks! I tried tons of different combinations for the shadowing, so I really need to get a good book on lighting sometime.

I always like checking out your work and like the direction that this image is taking(although over the last couple of months haven't had too much time to comment - VERY busy). Anyhow the head jumped out at me as something that didn't look right. As I read the replies, everyone seemed to think it was the colour doing this but I only think that is part of it.

My humble opinion has more to do with proportions. To get a head like that, you would have to do some serious stretching of the neck and I think the problem originates here. The neck 'brace' is quite deep, continuing further than the level of the top shoulder pads. Thus the neck would have to be about 6 inches long.

The head also seems too small considering the width of the shoulders and how deep the chest is.

The colours are all really nice and there are some cool things happening in this one.
