This is an recent endeavor, one of 33 related "concepts", I've just begun to move from sketch, and clean up to rendering........but I find myself challenging my initial compositional choices. The Wizard and Craven creature are pretty much set in stone, and the "S" or "U" rhythm I'm going for are also. The upper right is the main, the "birds" the outlet, while the cliff to sky remains the neutral. My questions or need for advices point toward the composition in relevance to the negative vs. positive spaces. How do you think I should go about the "moon" (negative), sky (negative) and the "cliff" (positve)? Should the cliff or sky or moon contain any details, or do you think it will throw off the balance of aspects? Should only the moon as opposed to sky and cliff contain detail only, and the other two spaces remain only simple shapes?
This is maybe 1/8th the actual size, and the compression and resizing pretty much killed all my little details. So....
I'm not looking for advices of character, lighting or such....I've pretty much settled on what changes will come, but all advices/opinions are welcomed. =) |

black and white pieces like this are tricky...these are my two cents even thought this isn't really my "field"
i say that since you have the moon so big, there should be much detail put into it. since the light source will then be coming from the other side of the cliff.,,maybe the cliff should be left almost black like it is,,but some rocks and whatnot highlighted..like on the edges n stuff
if you made the cliff as lit up as your character or the moon...it would probably all kinda mush together...its also good to have some dark areas to bind the whole thing.
the sky should be pretty much black...well i don't know much about skies so you dont really have to listen to this part..you COULD put some faint clouds in there...would be best if they were scattered-looking clouds though...CIRRUS clouds---
this is the most i ever wrote for someones piece...probably because i'm loving the way this is looking so far!! looking forward to the finished product!! |

Thanks Insider. I'm kinda weighing if the "moon" will become a sun or stay a moon, if I were to add black to the sky (logical anyhow) and stars....I think it'll cancel out the detail of the figures. So right now I'm leaning somewhat toward a sun, either way I've chosen to size it down and move it higher....since it contradicted my initial lighting.
I agree about the cliff definately, and I'll probably go that route.
Again thanks for the advices and positve comments. =) |
