Hi there, I am new to this forum, and new to digital art infact.
I was wondering if any of you good people could point me in the direction of a good tutorial site or newbie help page?
Below is a picture I have been working on lately, as I have recently gotten hold of a copy of painter v.7. I also have photoshop 6, but I can't seem to get my pictures to look the way I want.
I have gone for a very comic book style with this demon chap. Strong lines and strong very contrasting colours.
What does everyone think? I need to learn colour theory I think....

hello
check http://www.sumaleth.com/links for all your link needs
i like your pic
main porblem with the pic in my opinion is that there is no main light source.
i did a quick paintover:
head casting a shadow on the torso and hand casting shadow on the legs (some hard edged shadows) i think thats nice.
if you don't find my comment useful just ignore it. |

I like the style, its not too far away from having that "inked" look.

I just can't seem to get this painting thing right. Perhaps I am just not a painter...
I left that image and started to paint this one... I will post up the end result I promise.
No matter how horrid it turns out ;0p |

Oh thanks oDD. The links proved very useful. I am trying to water colour some of my stuff now. I am a little frustrated at not being able to progress with digital painting as I have done with lots of other things that are kinda similar.
I need to just keep working on it I guess...
My hand hurts though... heheh heheh |

Hello again.
I made this today to see if I could paint with a funny dry looking brush thingey.
Still haven't got it right, but this seems to be progress!
Can someone crit me please? I am sure I need it....

Thanks Bones
Yeah, the sword is actually supposed to be stabbed into the ground and he is only just half resting his hand on it.
But unfortunately I ran out of paper at the bottom... I guess I should increase the canvas size and put the rest of it in....
Thanks for the comments though! |

Just a little comment. I like that 4th pic (from the last 5 pictures there) over the final pic on the very bottom of the set... It just seems more realistic or something to me... maybe because his robe(?) isn't pure white, but rather with cream/mustard colors in it and just breaking it up from being perfect. Just my little bit Gj, love the drawings

Looks great so far!! I'm very impressed.
Only suggestion is that the way he's holding the sword looks really "dainty". The sword doesn't look heavy at all for him, but one of those puppies, still should be heavy enough that he has to hold it with a fist.. You know what I mean?
It's a good job though, far better than mine! |
