Well i rarely post any of my work here, but i feel that i could realy use some help with this. I'm not very good at drawing people, let alone painting them, so any advice would be great.
my main problems are with eyes and lips. i really havn't touched the lips at all yet, but the eyes are giving me a tough time. mostly just figuring out what colour works good for the whites of the eyes, but comments and advice for anything on the painting would be most welcome.
here is the ref pic, it's really bad quality, but then i don't want to just copy the pic exactly, so it's not that big of an issue. i just want to capture the likeness of her. click here

Well for starters I think that you should find a better photo if your going to do it from referance.
the other thing is the shapes of the eye. I know its a work in progress but there is a noticable difference...
Try sketching everything out first and then correcting it and get a decent sketch out before you go onto coloring it... |

It's not easy to say something valuable here.
The left eye is too small i guess and not finished. There are no shadows in the right one so it looks flat.
The left eye goes to show that you know how to make the eyeball look round.
So replace both with a combination.
If you don't want to start again with another ref pic at least take a better picture to look how and where to add the highlight in the eyes and on the lips.
The face looks too flat. A better picture with the desired lightsource might help... |

The nose is just a complete different one in compare with the reference. |
