Well ok so here's how I developed this particular robot. Its my first actual concept that will be used anywhere else other than my trash can, so I'm trying to be as thorough and as accurate as i can and become better at art at the same time.

so I started with a head:

then I drew the chestplate:

Then I did the torso:

Then came the leg:

And now I've just finished legs and arms and after people give me OK to continue I'm going to color them:

Now you do realize that there was no referance for this concept all of that just came right out of my head the way I thought it should look. I appreciate any comments.

Looks good for just oozing out yer brain.. Pay attention to anatomy of real life as well when building your robots, because looking at the legs I do not see how they could hold up the weight or hold the weight of the feet, let alone actually work. Good start tho!

BTW, I'm still a newb coloring and drawing in Photoshop, how did you do the edges on your metal? It looks great! Is there a good way to show lines and edges on metal?

Well the thing will probably be used in a computer game where everything is messed up, so I don't think that anatomy really matters as much as cool looks.

As for the edges its pretty easy, just pick a small brush and set opacity to like 20, then do the outlines of the edges, on the corners you might want to go with a bigger more blurry brush so u get the "steppin out" effect.

The legs look to skinny wile the feet are enormus(sp?)!

If thats your style it works, but somehow it's not quite what I was expecting to see. Possibly if you added "clutter" such as pipes valves and such around the main "piston".

It couldn't possibly walk with so little hydrolics for such large feet.

What I would suggest before coloring it any further: Give the legs bigger hydraulics, and make them go backwards and then forwards in an almost animal-like pose. In proportion to most robots, you should give it bigger guns, make them hang down low past the waistline, and give them a more interesting pose :P. Then again, it's your painting. I'm just a messenger!
