very cool concept. There is a book called '3d lighting. history, concepts and techniques' by arnold gallardo that may be of some interest to you. It covers lighting arrays. It isnt bent toward the Maya app but the lighting setups will work in any 3d app. well worth the price of the book imo

i love it... especially i love that distorted reflection of a standing up link on the left side. one thing that throws the whole thing off for me, are those "connectors" on the right side, inside the holes of the connected links. most probably you just haven't textured them, but right now they look as if they are made off white plastic, and it just doesnt fit with the whole metallic look of this piece.

Hi,

Here is my first try to create something in Maya. I tried to make it look real, but i have some problems with the light. There are 28 Pointlights in an Arry(circle), with an intensity of 0.4.

C&C are very wellcome!

Very nice. I think you need a bit of grime or wear & tear on the links, though. It's too clean at the moment.

Well in my opinion I think that you have far to many light sources...if you look at the picture there are so many crossing of shadows that you can't really where the initial light source is. If you just put one light then you can see better shadows, then put less stronger light opposite just to weaken the shadow. If you search through forums they'll give you a simple 3 light setup....

Par the shadows I think you've done a really nice job...how did you make the link, is it a spline, or primative...(I'm a 3dMax user)
