This is a concept that I'm working on with a friend for the cover of the design doc that we are working on... here's the progression.
Drawing by Darrin Claypool

Hey, you seem to have a great start here .
Wonderful character designs.
The woman's sword arm seems bent at an odd angle.
Good color choices: the yellow of the sky works well against the purples of the building(s?).
The buildings/landscape is behind the characters seems very out of focus. I assume it's purposeful. I would suggest trying to create atmospheric perspective some other way (make it look hazy with the way you paint it, not by stretching it out so the resolution is bad).
Overall this piece seems very pasted together. This won't go away until the entire piece is painted over.
This piece seems to have a great start; I really look forward to seeing it finished! |

I love it. I think you should ignore the characters though and just finish the background. The background is very very nice, IMO. |

Thanks for the critiques...
Here's pretty much the final background. Though I don't like the grass very much and it still seems like the foreground looks pasted over... anyone know how I can go about fixing this?
Link to bigger, uncompressed version.
