Hi all,

I've found out that I've started to far with painting and such.. didn't know enough about construction and stuff. So I've decided to try and learn the basics a bit more 'thorough'. These are sketches from excercises in "Fun with a pencil" By A. Loomis. What a great artist!

I finally feel I'm getting a bit more grasp on 'constructing' faces, and it's so fun! every drawing encourages me to make more.

Most of the heads here are, as I said excercises from that book. Although, the old man on the last page is one I made myself, based on the knowlegde I'd gained by doing the other heads.

After I feel I have a grasp about construction, I'll try to get better at 'shading' or modeling the drawings.

Regards,
Alex

Fantastic! That book really is such a great way to introduce a begginer to the concept of 'form'.

I'm absolutely going to have to join in with you here, if you don't mind? I'll be back later with some pics... Kick me if I forget!

Very nice work! One suggestion would be to practice making more decisive and longer lines, particularly on the darker final lines. That is, rather than short dabs, or going over lines again, try to draw longer smoother lines for each arc of a drawing. Takes a lot of practice but is useful to learn.

James Bradford: Thanks! I've kept on going, and this is the result. (see below)

ZippZopp: Thanks, and yeah, check THOSE books out.

Ian Jones: I don't mind if you join me here.. But you didn't..? Perhaps now?

Tom Luth: I sometimes success at that, but not very often. I see how it's useful to learn that, and I'm striving for it, but I fear I need more practice. It's soo easy to double, triple, etc. draw over the drawings.. Atleast for me!

Update! I've been on vacation, and had a lot of time to draw. Here are some of the results:

These are drawn from photographs from small ads in a magazine.. Just regular people, I like to draw regular people rather than famouse people.

Just an imaginary head

Hehe, this is supposed to look like Richard Gere, but somehow he looks alot younger than he did on the photo.

Well.. Smiles.. Need more work. + one sad man, one grumpy and a funnyface..

A farmer?

Two old men. I like to draw old people I've found.. It's fun to add wrinkles and such..Tear and wear..

I feel I still kinda have that problem with going over the lines again and again, but I'm working on that. Also, I need to learn modeling more. I also think I have a problem with most of the features of the face, but I'm slowly working that out, I think..

Errr... I got a message about too many images, so had to post again for the last two..

A man I saw on the ferry when I went to Denmark. At first a drew him on a paper napkin (always wanted to do that ), then did him again on regular paper. It was fun trying to catch his look, cause I didn't really have much time. I think I'll do this more often, now I have my sketchpad with me everywhere I go

This is my sister, she asked me if I could draw her.. something weird about the far chin..
