I have been working on this picture for a friend of mine (sort of a symbolic view of her) and I would like any comments. As the title states, I am new here but moreso I am new to art in general. I have always messed around drawing but life took me elsewhere and I never focussed on it. So now that I have a new Wacom tablet and handy dandy Photoshop 7 I am dedicating spare time to working on drawing.
Let me know what I can do to improve this (and future works). I am also REALLY wanting suggestions for a background and something to put in her right hand. Let me know guys and gals! Thanks!!!
PS Hopefully the pic works... if not go here:

well, for example http://www.geocities.com is a good place to start at. It doesn't allow hotlinking or so, but you can put a link to a picture that others can drag and drop to their url bar in their browsers, or copy and paste. It's the place people usually start at. Also there are places like http://www.boomspeed.com , which unfortunately gives you only 1 meg of space per account, but it does support hotlinking and showing the images directly on forums. http://www.20m.com used to too, but I don't think they support that any longer... You might try that, though. |

My first suggestion would be to work bigger. If you need a small picture, work large and then resize it afterwards, because details are a real pain to add at a size like this. Also, working on an image that will be rescaled later on gives you to freedom to be a little sketchy and scribbly without anyone noticing in the final product. The linework seems very pixelated, I would check to make sure you have the anti-aliasing boxed checked while using the brush. Unless you're using the pencil tool, which has no anti-aliasing. I think you should rely less on your linework, though. Sketch out what you want, but don't be afraid to break out of those lines. Just paint. The image looks a bit lifeless as it is now, like a page from a coloring book. I think the small size is partly responsible for that, too. But it's definitely a good start. Anatomy looks pretty good, the pose is interesting, and the colors have potential. But I recommend working larger. Keep it up, I want to see how this progresses. |

OK, thanks for the help...
My only reply though is to Tinusch... that picture was drawn at 4800x6000 with 300 dpi, so size is not a problem. I shrunk it to post it, so the pixelation lies in whatever oddball level I managed to shrink it to. But as far as the lifeless is concerned I sorta agree with you, so if you have any further suggestions as to that.....?
PS... I see really no pixelation at all, did you click on the picture to pop up the large size view?
