Here's my latest... Going for a sorta Carravagio influenced look, but it need work on the shadows and he needs some more contrast i think... also he has no hand, and doesn't really look as much like he is having an idea than i had wanted. I still need to age him a bit more as well. Any help you could give on adding some damatic lighting would be appreciated! Thanks. |

LOL...that's good, Stauminator...I like it, I remember this story (but naturally have forgotten which philosopher/scientist it was). Regardless, I like your take on this...his expression does convey a surprise discovery...I would just exaggerate things more if your not happy with it (wider eyes, mouth more agape, eye brows higher, etc). For age I would go with some wrinkles on the forehead and around the eyes. He looks pretty old as is...anyway, I like the pic and the concept Keep it up! |

Nice pic. His torso is kinda weird, looks a little flat. Just me, but i think you should develop the shadows a bit more about the stomach area. Also some interaction between the the reflections off the water and his body would be neat, but not nessasary. |

Ok, did a little more work. I added more shadows, but his belly is still too round, i plan on adding some ripples, and i think the lighting is a little off... i font think you could see the bottom of the tub... I also have some cropping to do, but thats not a big deal. |

The water around his middle looks strange. The way it twists into the dark water gives the appearance that someone put Elmer's glue in his bathtub. I'd just get rid of it and maybe just put some ripples around him instead, since bathtub water doesn't tend to move so much as to create whitecaps.
I really like the rest of the image, however especially the origionality. This is sopposed to be Archimedes getting the idea about water displacement, right? |
