I made this at work while goofing off today. Anybody else doing this sort of thing?
I'm looking for ways to make my vector work look more "real", any crits and comments are welcome... I'm not really worried about the setting. I will do all that later, maybe eventually work up an entire head. Let me know what ya think...

That's one very nice eye you got there! I know how tedious stuff like that can be! Have a look at White Room and you'll know that I know =)
Regards (and keep up the good work)

HOLY S**T Summer, you're not kidding!!! That is some impressive work. I am inspired to trudge on. Though I consider myself forewarned regarding the blood you had to sweat to make that shot work. Great work. You MUST have others, I'd love to see more / share ideas/ tips and tricks and all that... I'll be watchin for ya... As to the rest of you, if you're interested in a tute, I could try to throw something together, I'll pop a link in this post if I can get around to building it, but meanwhile you can ask me specific questions if you want to attempt something in Illustrator. I'll be happy to send you an example... [email protected]
Thanks for the responses everybody... |

Ok Kurtz, Vertigoblack, and Lotekk, Here's a tutorial.
It's not the whole eye, but it should get ya started.
Let me know what you think... and, yeah kurtz,I mess with the marketing departments logos too...

I second the previous HOLY S**T SUMMER. Nice layers list. A tut would be very useful john I gotta admire your patience. You said you made it at work just screwing around? I mess with the marketing deparment's company logos when I'm bored. I currently only use Illustrator for making basic shapes and stuff to be added into drawings in Photoshop. |

Hi thanks for comments =)
No, I haven't done much more than this picture and the one before: Lady bug
Mostly I have been fooling around just checking the tools and when I felt I had them control I did the two illustrations you see.
Im the Painter type if I should do anything else than web design and trance =)
And John, I you want us to do something together, you just name it. Im up to almost anything tutorials, pictures or whatever =) (As long as there is no time limit)
I see you already started out with a great tutorial!
Keep in touch

Nice ladybug summer, very subtle.
Here's another one of mine. An ode to my mouse...
I do have an idea which might make a fun collaboration. I think we owe it to the nice folks here at the forum to continue the legacy of photorealism in illustrator.
I'd love to work with you, unfortunately, I can't seem to find your email address anywhere. If you want to play (no time limit of course) drop me an email, and we can talk details. Incidentally, how big is your whiteRoom.ai file? I find that when I start adding that much depth, the .ai gets larger than the exported jpg (or .png) would have been...
I look forward to hearing from ya,

hey all...
Sorry for the slow response... my monitor just passed away and I have had some trouble digging another one up. This sucks since I'm sitting in front of a 14" (60 Hz) now... I guess our little project will have to wait until I can afford a new 19" or 21". Anyway John, I've emailed my icq# so lets talk from there...
regards
