Well, the comment I have is the rationality of the situation. What is the guy on the right doing and why hasn't the guy on the left cut him to shreds? They both are using light sabres, both are poised to use them, and the guy on the right seems to be stupidly leaving his foot out in the middle of nowhere to be amputated. I just think that if he's playing with that kind of a weapon that he wouldn't be making mistakes like that which could cost him his life without having an opening from the other side.
Second comment has to deal with the weight distribution of both characters. The character on the right kicking is extending his body and weight a little too much into a kick that, if the opponent was in a crouch, he wouldn't likely do. It puts a person off balance and leaves you wide open to a hit, besides being uneffective power wise(kinda like he's trying to fall on the guy in the splits). The guy on the left is seemingly in an L stance or cat stance. Most of his weight is on his back leg, however, some of it should be still supported by his front leg. That stance should have a 60-40 back-front weight distribution. Also his front leg would be turned a little bit in order to keep balance.
The easiest way to figure out the length is in a mirrior that reaches the floor. Pose in the positions that you want your characters to be in to figure out how the wieght would be placed and how they would be positioned. But if you can't do the kick(or hold it there)just put your leg up in the air and generally figure out how you are positioned.
Personally I think it looks like what I did when I was younger. However, especially with fights, but in most things you have to ask yourself what is the story behind the picture as it gives you the information you need to make the picture work a bit better and make more sence. Here you need to ask yourself "What happened in the fight to bring it up to this stage, what will happen next?" That will give you the freedom to figure out the poses and positioning a bit better.
But keep up the good work and if you keep at it I'm sure that you will be able to draw a Jedi vs. Sith battle no problem. ![](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) |

Yeah you are right, thanks for the words of wisdom...
Im drawing alot everyday to try to figure all these things out, such as balance, wieght, perspective...
the scene itself is nowhere, these two are not fighting but its 2 different drawings put together in photoshop, they were never thought to be fighting like it looks just that it turned out that way when put in the same frame =)
i will continue to post my work here as i grow better and more versitile..hopefully in 2 years ill be able to make some really good things... |
