Here she is. Still quite alot to do to her, but I just wanted to show where I am at the moment. Eventually, she'll have fairy wings, and will be sitting on a lily pad.
Drawn from reference (included below).

In the final image, she'll most likely be a more green or blue colour.
anyway, Enjoy.

C&C welcome.

Cythe.

the lower rendering looks really good, yeah, as you said it needs some other hues to make it more 'fresh', some people are going to give you shit for working from a photo reference, but take it or leave it. Looking forward to seeing how you render the face and wings, be carefull it wouldn't take much to ruin it, the face is the hardest part!

Believe me!

You made a very nice line drawing but your paniting is a bit muddy and not so good.

Instead of going for maximum photorealsim try to use only 4 colors to start with and paint them in very accurately

Wow, thanx everyone for your comments.

:Light: I'm not sure what you mean by 'muddy', and I want to go for photorealism. That's the whole idea for this picture, as I've never done photorealistic painting before, and I wanted to see if I could do it. (Looks like I'm getting there).

:SWANYDSPIN: I'm really not looking forward to doing the face! and I'm tossing up between giving her dragonfly type wings, or butterfly type wings. Any suggestions?

:scylla: I will post more updates. I've just finished the arms and hands, but I'll wait a little longer before I post a pic.

Looking at the line art.. and then looking at the colored version i got thinking.. like it somehow someone was cheating.

I am not trying to be a jerk or anything... but honestly looking at your drawing i see many anatomy flaws. but then i see the colored version......

IF however i am wrong....
Then so yer a really good artist.... but it doesnt look like it ... because when i super imposed the reference over YOUR colored version.... it matched up perfectly..like so..

The pencil outline was traced. I don't deny that. I never did. What I'm working on is the colouring of the figure, which is 100% my own painting.

"I am not trying to be a jerk or anything... but honestly looking at your drawing i see many anatomy flaws."
I find this odd as, like I mentioned above, she was traced.

"IF however i am wrong....

THANX!!!

Seriously, if I had chosen to do so, I probably could have drawn the sketch by hand, it would have been a little out of proportion, I don't doubt it, but I chose to trace for this exercise.

Again, I have to say the the colouring and shading ARE 100% mine. And, believe it or not, I did about 80% of the shading and highlights using dodge and burn
I know the majority of people that frequent this board look down on the practice, but I like it.

Cythe.

EDIT: ACK! I did say "Drawn from reference" didn't I?
Change that to "traced, then PAINTED from reference."

That is some fantastic coloring, very nice detail. I would say that if you are doing a coloring excercise, it doesnt matter if you use reference or even trace, if that's not what you are working on that is.

And I don't see why it matters what tools you use to color if you get results like that!

Here is a couple of quick pencil drawings I did recently.

This pic is a quick sketch of my hand. I think it's obvious from this picture, that I can't get the proportions quite right, but shading is not too bad. (hence the traced lady)

This was going to be a troll, or goblin type creature, but I gave up. I didn't know where to take it next.

I don't know why I bothered, but I did a quick colour job on him...

Anyway, back to the girl...

No thats cool Cythe. I might have missed you saying you traced it. But yes your Coloring is damn good. When i was looking at it last night i was thinking that its either a direct copy (with some filters) but its too darn smooth and stuff.

I would have to say.. good job and keep up the good owrk.

I hope i didnt offend you. That was not my intention. Mostly it was to figure out what you did to achieve it. But now that its explained i woudl have to say.... DAMN!

Keep posting your progress. Its good to see work like this in progress. A lot of people learn this way. Including myself.

hey.. Got a website or some more pictures online?

No, you didn't miss it. I didn't say it. I should have, but I didn't think to mention it.

"I hope i didnt offend you. That was not my intention."
Nope. Not at all. I was a little stunned for a moment to be thought of as a 'cheater', and I felt I had to prove my self as the real deal, but after a moment, it didn't worry me. So, no harm done.

"hey.. Got a website or some more pictures online?"
I don't have a website up just yet, but I will one day. The few pics I do have available for viewing, can be seen here, http://www.artecy.com/cythe/
There's not much more than you've already seen of my work. (If you do happen to visit there, there is some junk you may/may not be interested in. I'm working as a skinner, texture artist, graphics artist, musician, and mapper for an UnrealTournament Mod called 'Thievery'. I think some pics and stuff are still at that url.)

"Keep posting your progress. Its good to see work like this in progress."
Don't worry, I plan too. I 've just got to actually MAKE progress first!

Cythe.

Man: this is a weird board! People go about "busting" others for tracing! (I must say, for myself, I am pretty anti-tracing, but I don't know if I'd bust someone for it! I'd just ask!)

Nice artwork, Cythe! Very lovely! I think your rendering is very nice, and I like the other drawings you showed as well. Good drawing technique.

I do have to ask - you draw quite well, why didn't you just draw the figure freehand? It would have taken longer, you would have struggled more, but that's the only way to get faster and more accurate with freehand drawing - practice every chance you get! Even if it does take longer, and even if you have to struggle more to get the drawing accurate! (I know, I know - you chose to trace this one time, and here I am, busting your chops. But you just missed the opportunity to get that little bit of extra practice, and you passed it up! )

I KNOW! I must mention that I'm incredibly LAZY!

Thanks for your encouraging words though. Most appreciated.

dont worry about it... for a beginner tracing and sampling colors is a great help.. I've done it myself. Do a few like this Cythe and when you get better you can start drawing freehand and picking your own colors. Some people never stop tracing (something I dislike.. but thats just me)

Try to learn something from this progress though, don't just do a mindless copy. Needless to say really because I can see you have already done some improvements over the original. your shading is looking good, keep it up

and one more thing.. consider to mention that you have traced when posting.. just to avoid 'trouble'
