Hey all, I have just finished this painting of a Vampire face... thinking about making it into something that I can actually show to someone...
Let me know which one is better.
C&C will be much appreciated. |

The lighter one on the bottom's definately better... the dark one's a little too dark, but I see what you're doing with that... it's very effective - the teeth and mouth is particularly good...
I can't really think of any useful crits, so I'll just say... wikkid...

ps - you could add some extra stuff to the lighter one - like maybe an outline of the hair or the shoulders.... otherwise, you got a lot of black border and nothign much interesting going on in it....!

Try to pay more attention to the structure of the head:

Ai: I prefer the top one. the values are working better than in the bottom one where the light seems to go from cool to warm in an unnatural way. watch out for smoothness if you're going for character. study bg's picture and pay attention to how he is defining the structure of the face and head.
Timo: I've seen your examples and suggestions in WIP threads here and i have to say that that's mighty fine work! on the virge of intimidatingly good tips. i hope to see the day when someone opens up my eyes by doing something awsome out of one of my themes. olet tosi reipas!
Ai: Just looked at it aigain and realized the bottom one is actually better though i still feel it has a strange a bit smudgy meeting between warm and cool. my TFT-monitor plays tricks with the eye.
The vampires eyes don't blend in so well with the rest imo. try more shading in the eyes. look at some reference pictures of eyes or bring up a mirror and close your eyes to eevil sliths for reference. a jaw bone seems to be the one thing i'm missing the most from your picture.
keep at it!

I'm gonna be a jerk and say I'd like a combination of both of them.. Maybe the warmer/more saturated colors could fill in the folds, creases and fleshier areas whereas the extremeties and patches of skin could be more like the second picture, kind of ashen and dead..
Also gotta agree on bg here tha you should really work on the underlying structure here before getting down with the details. I won't go on repeating, looks like a good start though..
here's a handy picture of me for reference!
