Ok been working on a new piece. I am trying for a darker more muted look.. but I'm not sure if Im pulling it off. I normally color my dragons and such real bright colors and have crazy colors in the sky, but wanted something different. Any crits are welcome.

hmmm... if you're trying for a more muted look, you might want to reconsider changing the look of the tower and also changing the hues (ie. the purple background) into a darker version. maybe something like below (hope u dont mind...):
 and that is my two canadian cents worth.

uhg, tried to change my email on my profile and it messed it up so i had to create a new account....
well anyways here's an update on the pic. I tried a few different colored backgrounds but i still found this one the best looking. i am cleaning up the dragon now. also going to lighten up his face area a bit and maybe toss a few highlights here and there.
