Hey guys, Im a bit new to this. Im a 18 and a self-tought artist of 2 years. This is a quick sketch I did this afternoon. Crit& Comments please because I seem to be in a rut. What can I do to make this a better picture? I know this is sorta general but I don't really know where to start.

Thanks

Damn that's a cool name. I've played D&D since I was 6 years old and yet I hadn't thought of that. ;-) After playing that long you'd think I would have made up every name in the book.

Anyway, I'm a self taught artist too, so its good to see you stick with it.

Your forms look good and your lighting looks correct. Pretty much it's in a sketch phase right now. You need to determine a direction you want to head in with it and if youre talking drawing or painting.

Example: If you were to choose painting, and would like to know how to paint it similar to say...BROM. Then say,"I like BROM's work a lot. How can I get this head to take on the ghosted appearance of his work?"

...I could help you with that if time permits, and if not I'm sure others would have an easier time giving you C&C in this direction.

The point is to lead people in path you'd like. Otherwise they'll not know the direction you want and you'll likely not get a reply.

Well, he doesn't really look sad to me, he looks content or mildly evil. Love the use of shadow to build the face. Just have a couple of things that bug me about the lighting though. It seems to be multidirectional. The big patch of reflected light by the ear shouldn't be there because with the light as you have it, that area would be in shadows due to it's angle in relation to the light source. The eye should actually be higher, behind the furrow created at the transition between the brow and the top of the nose. That'll cause you to pull the eyebrow up a bit more to compensate. Figure out the expression you want on his face and change to brow accordingly. The shadow of the nose should make the front part of the upper lip dark, again due to the direction of the light. The last thing would be to pull the ear back a bit more as it is too close and crowding the face.

The pic shows alot of basic knowledge though, so keep working at it.

IceThorn,

Nice creature on the bottom. ;-)

I don't spend much time with ICQ or Emails buddy, or I would.

If you have any questions then your welcome to ask them here.
