I just installed Win2000.
Didn't like my modem. Had to buy another one. :O
Didn't like my graphics card. Had to buy another one.
New graphics card doesn't like my old motherboard.
New motherboard = new processor = new RAM.
Is this the most expensive OS I ever bought???
Current System:-
Win2000
Intel PII 400Mhz
64MB RAM
GeForce 2 MX card.
Any suggestions on cheap/compatible motherboards + processors would be appreciated. |

you should try the motherboard from Korea, many of them are really good. I've used Aopen and Gigabites, excellente stuff.
Nextime, if you're planning to buy something new after a long period of time, consider checking whether or not your motherboard support it. Theseday, it seems to me like ppl have to change their motherboard for every months if they want to upgrade sumthin. |

I'm still running 98...having to restart every time you make a minor network adjustment is a pain...
...just a thought, were your drivers updated for 2000? Were you able to connect to the internet to download new ones?
hmm...
I still need to upgrade my crappy motherboard/processor, last time I buy a computer from Compaq(Comcrap) ever... |

Err, buy a Mac? I'm not trying to be glib here, but it it an alternative. Sure they're a little more expensive, but that's a small price to pay to leave all that Windows frustration behind.

fuck whatever, everything can be compatible with macs if you try hard enough to get it to work. Virtual PC, on a g4???? helllo....
Plus the only things that aren't compatible are games, so if you want to get serios like almost all the high end companies (dreamworks, and pixar), use a max, or linux operating thingy system.

Yeah, Win2K has problems running on Pentiums 75 with 8MBs of ram 66Mhz bus SIMM RAM. It also doesn't recognize the Cirrus Logic and Trident ISA chipsets.
>=)
I had no problems whatsoever with W2K. It's the first pleasurable (and WORKING) operating system I've EVER had. |

I've had lotsa trouble with win2k. I installed it when I first got it a couple of weeks after it was released here. My Logitech Force Feedback wheel didn't work. I didn't care much about that, because i don't play games much. Then I found out that my gfx card only pumped out about 60% of the framrate that it was supposed to. Crappy drivers I guess, 2k hadn't been out for long. However, I got tired of it and installed Win98 SE again which I had been running before. And since then I've had 98. Working perfectly.
A couple of weeks ago I tried to intall Win 2k again, since it's said to be much better and more stable, and I've had it run flawlessly on one of my older computers (a PII300). I tried my wheel, worked perfectly, tried my gfx card, worked perfectly, just as it had done under win98. Tried my soundcard - DAMN! It was about 10 times louder in win2k. I almost blew my hearing, and I moved the entire block at least two feet away.
Needless to say. I installed Win98 again... and here I am.. With my old and crappy, but working OS

HAHAHAHAHAHA!
Apparently, you can get it to work on my motherboard (Chaintech 6BTM) if you cover the last 2 pins on the GeForce card with insulating tape.
It works.
