*** Please do not mind the sketch, it is only here as a test purpose ***
So, here comes my first painter work in progress. Personnally I'm really used to Photoshop but I really love Painter style, and this is why I've decided to try to paint a full picture as a training.
I'm sure a lot of people had tried this also (Photoshop -> Painter) so I thought of sharing my trip with Sijun members (amators and Pro).
Of course I'm deeply interested in Comments critics and overpaints (CCO) about my technique (or my lack of technique) so fill free to express yourself
if some members are interested, I can post the basic sketch too. I'll also post my progress if this thread works!
I really would be happy if we can have a special discussion for people starting on Painter
Cheers,

looks good for a start. I find it hard to crit something when it is not finished
I do like the chest-area. work the other parts up like that and it will be cool
i could be wrong, but it looks like you are painting at this resolution (?) It would benefit you alot to scale the image up 2-300 % when painting and just scale it down again before posting here. it is a trick just so you dont have to work in such 'close quarters' (sorry if you knew this already) |

I understand it is hard to comment when it is only so far advanced, but "looking good so far" is already for me a motivated coment so thanks
For the size, the original is indeed x3 larger. But even then, I found it hard to control the painting process in Painter. I realize it is just because I'm not used to Painter
Now I feel a little better with Painter, thanks to your comments in the other thread, and thanks to the docs.
So I will sharpen my skills and continue to post the progress here
By the way, when you say that you like the chest area, do you think that all the painting could stay with this level of detail only? Should I continue to work on the chest?
thanks

no problem
I think it is difficult to answer your last question. It is like asking 'When is a painting fisnished ?' you could paint on this for a year or call it complete now.. it is up to you. Some people say it is hard to know when to stop, but I've never had a problem with that myself. I sometimes work alot on a piece other times less. again, it is your painting and you decide.
I said I liked the chest and I did mean that. If you worked the entire body to a similar level as the chest it would be a decent painting I think. But, if you did that chest in 5 minutes I'm kind of interested in seeing what you can do with it in 30 minutes too... if you know what I mean :-) |

Your answer is exactly what I was searching through my last question.
I admit I cannot do better for the moment than what I've done for the chest
In fact the chest took me more than an hour on Painter, and I plan to do the rest in this level of detail because I like it that way too.
If I can do all the rest like the chest, I'm now sure that at least 2 people in the world will like it : you and... me
thanks |

So I'm still working on that "first painter work" and I'm starting to feel comfortable with this tool, but I'm far from what I would like to achieve right now.
Anyway, I'm as I'm still experimenting (and even if this is far far far from Sijun quality standard for these kind of pictures) I wanted to share it with you...
So I'm still searching to soften the legs color, because the yellow is too high in contrast to the image. Moreover, it still need a lot of work, as those legs are quite detailed (cf. first image of post)
I could use some hints on lighting for this piece and some advices on colors (how the balance the overall look)
