Hey, I'm new to the board and to the whole drawing thing. I've been sketching and drawing for about three weeks now, and this is my first computer image after about a week of paintshop pro knowledge. As you might imagine, my first production leaves quite a bit to be desired, and I was hoping a few of you might offer up a suggestion or two on image refinement. It'd really help, trust me.

Scroll down to see the pic
I should point out that my conversion from a 245 meg psp file into the butchered, shadow of an image that appears on my site is somewhat uninspiring. What I really need advice on, first and foremost, is how in the hell I can preserve image quality while at the same time, have a manageable files size? My poor pic got butchered once in the shrinking of the original image (quite big,it was) and again in the conversion from psp to jpeg. The final insult and the most brutal conversion was the jump from jpeg to geocities jpeg (a real slaughter). It's all bumpy and ugly now- especially the nose (oh god, the nose). Any advice on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Also, as this is my first post, chances are that it be a little screwed, so please be patient with me as I try and get things under control, thanks.
....Well, I prettied up the image a bit, but now geocities tells me that my site has exceeded its allocated data transfer, whatever that means....says it'll be back up within the hour, so here's to hoping..

I'm about as much artist as you are so I'm in no position to give comments or crits on your painting.. other than saying it looks nice.. great concept! I can however give you some hints on computer related issues.
First.. a 245 MB .PSP file?? Surely that can't be correct.
Second.. On Geocities.. when a certain amount of people (I think it is per day) visits your site you'll get that error message. Apperantly.. you've had alot of visitors today.
Third. To preserv quality on Jpegs in PSP6 (perhaps in 4 and 5 as well.. cant remember), goto save as.. choose jpeg from the drop down menu and click "options" (in the save as dialogue box). Then choose "lowest compression/best quality" on the slider. Then save it.
Fourth.. There's no difference between the "geocities jpeg" and the way it was before. It's the same file. That is, if not geocities have done some drastic thing since I used it.
And last. You'll be much better off using Photoshop instead of PSP!
Good luck! |

Well, the file was 250 meg before I delayered it. Once it was flattened, it was only 60 meg (this according to psp's opened file size indicator). Just curious, but why is adobe's ps so much better than psp?
Also, I was wondering if anyone could offer me ideas on how I might add a more realistic flavour to the pic? It looks like a cartoon right now.
Thx, |
