The greatest feature of forums is the fact that we can all share info, right?
Well I need your help, any who are willing to lend any.
I've been staring at these two designs I've made for ages, and I have a hard time even starting! These are VERY ambitious, and are certainly beyond me at this moment. Hopefully this is where you guys come in.
Don't laugh, I think it's a unique design
I realize these are going to take me forever and a lifetime to finish, but I'd like some feedback as to how any of you would approach this type of modelling.
Should I start with a subdivided cube?
I'm asking for a lot here, and I'm sorry. (or maybe it's just night time and I'm getting carried away) regardless... this would be a really cool project to see finished, and ANY help would be appreciated!
THANKS!

hey subliminate:
all the little complicated stuff on your pictures (things like pipes/tubes, bits in between sockets, arms, legs, etc) should be a cinch to make,(use primitives) awhile back, i made this motorcycle in a single day, its 99per cent primitive objects...

subdivision doesnt have to start as a box, its easier to start with an object the same basic shape as what you want to make...
also, just cause sub d is so good, doesnt mean you should forget about nurbs or even standard splines (stuff like the rockets on second guys back - just draw an outline, and skin it)
hope this helps a little. |

I agree...you don't need to start with a box...I also find it easier to start with a basic shape...then use SUb D when you need to see the smoothed detail. In Max, it's a bit cluttery to look up the stack all the time, so you'll end up toggling the Meshsmooth off occasionally.
If you check out my 3D section on my site, you can see an Orc I created using Sub D modeling in Max.
