One of the images I am working on for my portfolio. I have been trying to get better at painting. The one thing I could really use help on with this piece is painting rocks.
Bring on the crits and comments, be harsh as you want if you think that will help.

Hey, you got a nice start on the rocks in the upper section of the painting. Just need to fill in the highlights and shadows now. Some cool colors so far, just build on those.
And this is just an opinion, but i think it would be cool to have some sorta clothing on the girl, maybe all torn and ragged. and maybe have her chained to the wall, like she was a sacrifice and the barbarian is coming to save her. Or maybe you already have a better idea than that .
So you live in nashville? I'm just a little south of you in murfreesboro.. cool to see someone else on sijun from the area. |

Thanks for the reply, and yes there will be some kind of clothing on the girl in the scene. I was thinking along the same lines as you but I wanted to get the back ground looking good before I start focusing in on the characters.
So are you in school in Murfreesboro?
I thought everyone in sijun was from out of the country, or at least it seems that way sometimes |

I'm looking at you pict again and again, and I can't see anything more to say than what Kad did!
Lighting, and clothes on girl. Except from that, scene and actors in that pictures are well done for me |

Ok, did some more work on the rocks, and added some clothing to the girl. I also gave her a little more definition.
I'm not sure if the color is looking good when I save to jpg. Anyone have any ideas?
Crits and Comments always appreciated.

I like this. It's got a strong foundation.
Would it be a good idea to have the
highlights be a complementary color to the of the rocks?
It would be cool to add some scribbles
on the rocks surface to define texture.
3 pixel brush with that stylus feature set
to size and opacity. It's perfect for fast random details. |

Thanks for the comment. I will use your trick wehn I get to the real detail type stuff, it sounds like a quick way to add some texture to the rock.
Well everyone, here is the latest and greatest update. I think it is beginning to come together now. I'm having some trouble with the skintones on the female, but other than that I'm just plugging away.

Ok, starting on the detail work now.
The spider has undergone some major changes. (Fredrik thanks for the comment you were correct the eyes did not look good at all.)
Starting on the humans next and then will have one last run through to really tighten the whole image up.
If anyone thinks they see a problem please let me know. I seem to overwork my paintings at times and loose something from the sketch to the final piece.
Anyway here is the update:
