Well, ok, so he's not really flipping any one off. He's really supposed to be examining a red jewel in the sun light. This is a concept sketch of gargoyle-like character in a game, that I'm helping to visualize and code. I'd really like some C&C for this picture because I'm not used to painting straight on the computer without a line drawing. This is one of the few times that I've attempted it. Advice on lighting, coloring, and techniques for portraying translucent skin would also be appreciated.

give the face more definition. maybe the shoulders should be slightly broader and more bulky (if you wanna show power that is)
light looks scattered. you have two strong lightsources that just seem to pop up at some places. one is on the top left of the head. (if that is the shadow and then there is the one coming from the back. i like the colours thou. how the cold and the warm mixes.i d like to see some updates. (what i just said is not nessecarily right, its just what i think)

Yeah, it is keen of you to point out the narrow shoulders and the lighting. I'm intentionally taking some liberties with the anatomy, for the sake of character design. The shoulders are narrow and the muscles are supposed to be thinner, because my friend, in charge of the game, wanted this character to be sleek and have a graceful beauty, much like an elf. The second red light is coming from the not yet existant jewel, he is looking at.

Aren't gargoyles supposed to turn to stone during daylight ? Kidding.

Keep in mind that even tho you want him light and graceful, he will need a more important wingspan to carry his weight while gliding.
You could make a crazy shortening perspective to get the message across.

Ege who forgot how to spell this morning

I hate when I have a good thing going, then I screw up a pic and can't get it back it's original state. What this tells me is that I don't know what the hell I'm doing. Oh well I forgot to save my progress before, started from an old save, and I lost the character's raw look. I ended up using too soft a brush and smoothed the face out to flatness. (sigh) Oh well. Now I did the lighting all over again and it's running amok.

The only way I could fix it is by lowering the opacity of the hard lighting layer.
I also try correcting colors and came out with this which I think looks cool.

Please, if you have advice on lighting I'd appreciate it.
