Still working on this, and no matter what I can't get the shirt/robe to look right. I tried looking at a model with his shirt tucked in with no luck.
Any help or overpaints would be wonderful..

looking cool so far. maybe a bit more of a core lighting scheme to make it pop more and give it some more volume? |

good start. the crits are there, i'd just add the impossible right hand position. and about the wrinkles- get a reference and don't try doing all the wrinkles, just the important ones (the ones that show form)
"evil guy painting"
edit:
10 minute colouring job... to sleepy to do it properly
might develop this into a full painting sometime...

hmm mr t, your evil guy painting seems so much more fitting for the title of this post ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Hi,
cool piece so far. The guy's profile is really good.
Regarding the clothing, I would expect the folds of the tucked-in shirt not to run up right under his armpit
I have some other things too. First, the pose seems _really_ stiff. Like he is doing a very strict yoga pose or something. But maybe that's what you've intended.
And secondly, the general atmosphere of the guy ... just ain't evil... He rather seems to be some sort of alternative intellectual, thinking "Damn, again I've forgotten to buy milk! Will Wanda kick my butt!" ![](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |

Mr. T:
Haha, that was also my first thought when I saw the topic. Could you make him look more mean/evil? |

Hey there!
I think that the most important thing that you need to do with your picture is to study anatomy, because no matter how good we are, there's always more to brush up on. Also you should use some photographic reference/or real life of how material folds and tucks in and creases. It's not cheating, its just gaining a better understanding of how things work.
Sometimes, I find that to keep re-working something is a sure way to kill the life in it. Sometimes you have to destroy in order to create!
Good Luck buddy |

my thoughts...
I believe alot of the problems you have here, has to do with the fact, that you have chosen to do this guy, in a very stationary pose, where it is almost impossible to get any kind of depth working! Twisting his upper torso, just a tiny bit anitclockwise around his own vertical center, would give you the chance to show his right breast, shoulder and maybe his upperarm! That might just add the missing dynamic, and solve the problems you have with the flatness of the piece!
Add a more defined direction of the lightsource, and work to define the shape of the guy with the shadows, sharp'ones, soft'ones and the like! Need more contrasts than you've got going here I believe!
The problems you have with the folds in the shirt, might have something to do with the fact, that as you've drawn'it here, gravity works sideways! Well I'll tell you a little secret... No it doesn't! Let the folds fall more than twist!
Good luck ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |
