Hi all! just working on a Characteranimation for my final exam at Arts School... it's a 3D-Short of a little blue Alien (working-title "zapo") who is quite clumsy and flies around in his UFO, listening Walkman and therefore doesn't see/hear some warning-lights, hits the moon and strands on earth finally (location: some desert in texas), there he gets out of his trashed ufo and the first thing he sees is a little neat goofer staring at him, who gets fried by him instantly. at this moment, a police-officer (typical texas-style sheriff) arrives at the site and tells him to freeze, what he - of cause - does not do and a funny fight between the two of them (featuring matrix-esque bullet-time fx and bells and whistles) enflames between the both of them... so far for episode 1 - I'll release a second one at a l8r point...
So here are 3 shots of Zapo... Comments and Crits would be HIGHLY APPRECIATED
I'd also love to hear Comments, Crits, Suggestions, Ideas and stuff on the story so far
Thanks!!!
Regards,
nox

Hi.
This may just not be everyones cup of tea, dont panick. Always persist.
Ok well a few things Id say, is that if hes going to have such a big head maybe make his neck shorter... I mean it is meant to be a comic type character isnt it, its just the proportions are very... different. The whole thing is quite top heavy. The style of the suit is extremely sixties b-movie, maybe that was intended?
Another thing I noticed is that when you look at it, its as if youre looking at two separate things... the head.. and the body. Maybe try and get some sort of coninuity going with the whole thing. It looks as though you made a head and then added a body. Hope some of this helps. |

Bang on... when I looked at the first picture, of the head on its own, I thought: charismatic and with a sense of belonging to the plot you were describing, NOT bad! But when I scrolled down and saw the full body shot... well first of all, it looked alot different from what I had emagined the body to look like, seing the head, and second of all it looked exactly as Jolyon mentioned... I simply couldn't match the two!
You mention, that this character is somehow the funny clown of the plot... I see that in the head, but I dont see any funny attitude in the body! It simply looks to human-like! I would suggest, either to go for a completely different approach to the bodys anatomy... make it more Alien-like, OR... to give the body a bit more "freaky" proportions, more attitude more character more as a caricature of the human body!
It doesn't really work for me, as it is now!
Keep updates coming!
Good luck! ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

I think a potbelly and really short legs and a wobbling head would seem nice .. ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Thanks for the Crits! And yes - you're right - that's exactly what disturbed me too and therefore I'm just working on a new body...
I was looking at something more like this (just a quick 3 min. sketch)...
and am going to model this right now
This way I think it's a bit more balanced and - most important - way more funny
jolyon: yeah, the 60's B-Movie style is intended - he'll also fly a Saucer and his gun will be in that style too... but you're definitely right that the body sucks...
arkoh: thanks for the suggestions! guess it worky quite cool with anatomy such as in the above sketch...
gargoyle: yeah... he'll be quite some wobbly/slacky kind'a guy his antenna will swing along with his movements and I think the new body will be quite a bit "wobbly"
I'll post a shot of the new model as soon as it's worth showing... thanks for the c+c dudes!
solong...
