I did this sketch for a reference to an oil painting. But now I noticed that it's impossible to mix those colors with oils. I need bright, kinda saturated blue. Ultramarine and white doesn't do the trick.
So do you know any bright saturated blue oil colors with a name so I can ask it from art shops.

Hi there,

I'm no expert, but maybe these colours can help you make a saturated sky ...

Phthalo Blue

Prussian Blue

Cerulean Blue, Chromium

Cobalt Blue

There is a nice reference chart on this page Oilpaint colorswatches ....

Hopefully that helped somewhat ...

Thank you Hawkone! That really helped me! =)
Phthalo blue would work best, tho. I almost gave up with this project.

I suppose that those lighter parts of the swatches presents most satured light color what you can get just adding white?!

My pleasure, I'm glad you got out of your jam. Phthalo and Prussian are the most versatile because they contain so much pigment, useful for a huge range from the darkest blues and when mixed with white, can produce an enormous range of blues ... If only B.B. King had known about this ... teheheh ...

About the brighter stripe on the patches ... Yup ... I believe that is a 50%/50% mix of white with the respective color ... that is just an inspired guess though ...

Holy crap, that sure ain't a 50/50 mix of phthalo blue and white. Phthalo blue spreads *incredibly* well -- it's got a *lot* of oil mixed into it, and it's a very, very strong pigment. It's the color that you'll have alllllll over your clothes, your hands, your face, your brush, and your canvas the second you take the cap off. To get that lighter phthalo hue, use about 80-90% white to 10-20% blue. Seriously.

Warnings out of the way, phthalo blue is a great and rather versatile color. Mix with a bit of orange and you've got a lovely, warm tan/brown. By itself, it's a brilliant blue. It makes a nice lavender when mixed with vermillion. And so on, and so on. Oh, I love phthalo blue.

It seems my "inspired guess" was wrong about amount of white mixed with the Phthalo, and then I guess it is safe to assume that it is the same way with Prussian since it is also a very concentrated blue.

I stand corrected.

(Now where did I put that box of oilpaint ... #crawls under the bed, chasing the dustbunnies away# )
