assuming that you are happy with the shape of the head and proprtions, I would say look at your line work.

The above link is to a tutorial I came across a while back, and I found it helpful.

Take note of the differences in thickness that is mentioned towards the end. I didn't ask if it was ok to link to this by the owner, though I think their idea of posting it was to help people and they won't mind.
