If it's a bit stiff and 'posey' that's cause it started out as a fun thing where these characters are actually posing like this for a real photographer, then he clicks the shutter and says 'ok you can relax now'... it's supposed to become an animation, but of course you don't get the point across in a still image... anyway c&c and colorings welcome...

great, it seems cramped however.
If I had a sword *that* big I wouldn't come nearly as close to the dragon as he did. This has 2 logical reasons:
The sword needs space to be swung around for a good hit.
Dragons bite, scratch, spit, chew, trample, kick, Tail-whip and hurt people.
Does the woman control the dragon? It seems like she's not very happy with the idea of having the beast slain by Mr. I-can-benchpress-my-volvo.
it seems to lack a little depth, the dragon's foot and the warrior's foot are on the same line, their shadows really emphasize this.
Hope I'm of any assistance

I think the female was rendered very successfuly. I also like the beast's lower leg musculature. All the sinews strain and pull against each other quite dramatically.
My only reservation is that handlebar thing the woman is holding. It seems to me that there should be more of a harness there, if that was your intent.
really nice work. |

Evidently a Newfoundland ate his great toe! :] The rendering is nice as usual. Some anatomy issues going on here and there, but I'm sure you see most of them already. Good job! |

Once again, a pleasure.
Boris, anyone? (Just teasing. I jokingly colored it somewhat Boris-ish too. )
I don't know about the dude. He is dangerously skirting Boris-eque. I think you might want to make his pose more exaggerated(Think Phil Hale). The reason why Boris's stuff looks so stiff is because they are realistic static poses, which absolutely does not work in a fantasy painting. And for the same reason, Frazetta kicks Boris's ass.
The dude is facing the 3 o' clock direction, while the chick is actually placed about 2 o' clock position to him, which doesn't line up.
The lizard thing could be bigger too? He looks a bit tiny for a monster.

gotta love the dragon's leg...great work!
overall a _very_ nice piece. but now for the crits:
the triceps muscle of the barbarian looks
strange. don't know exactly what's wrong with it, perhaps there should be seen some points where the muscle connects with the bone. it doesn't look like a triceps muscle, and i think there should be a glimpse of the biceps too.
umm...but then again, I guess you're still working with the picture so I'm not going any further with the critique. |

Very cool pic and dynamic, the only thing that seems to static is the dragon. The head has a nice flow to it, but the body seems to stiff. Maybe shift its body a little and make it more in a guard type stance. |

Thanks everybody! I've uploaded a different version (see it at the top) trying to take into account most c&c, thanks Lunatique for a cool paintjob! DarkStalker1, if you want to paint on this it should be pretty final for a while, I'm going to have to work on something different for a while.
Yeah I don't know about the triceps either... that and her leg were the hardest.
I think the woman controls the dragon, but she may also be telling it to back off - "he's my special friend, Bobo, stop...!" |

I got a suggestion to reverse part of the picture, I thought it was a good one and I tried it - see it at the top. Some parts are rougher than before now, I was in a hurry, have to work on some other stuff for a while.
Thanks DarkStalker1, cool colors, sorry for the many different versions. |

complement: cool drawing!
question: why would the dragon turn his neck like that? the former posision could have suggested the man attacked from behind, surprising the woman and her dragon, now it looks like he ran up to the dragon real fast, made a summer sult and thus tricking him into bending his neck like that, ran back, got his sword, and attacked... |
