Well, I'm in my 4th week of school now for that Computer Animation degree. I think I've learned quite a bit for no formal teaching up until now. Here's my homework assignment for this week, you guys tell me what you think. I had some issues with the nose and mouth and will continue to work on those as much as I can prior to turning it in. Other then that anyone got any crits? I have noticed compared to some great artists in my class, alot of people shade differently and some of the best artists use little shading but know the best places for it. Hopefully some day I can make it there too..
(also I know that looks like a 'symbol' eye and not a real eye, thats one of the things I'm working on..

you've got the shape of your head down pretty well. the only thing that bothers me is that it seems to me you put too much emphasis on line and not enough on form. The area around your lips doesn't have a harsh division of value like you've drawn it, it might be better to have a less-harsh transition of shades...
Also, the flaver-saver patch of hair under your lip seems to be off in perspective, which makes the whole goatee seem to be at a different angle from the rest of the face.
Other than that, looks good. Keep it up! One more thing, it might be good to go one more step and think of an environment for your face. is it indoors, outdoors, day, night, etc? that will make a diffence in the overall level of light and the kind of shading you use.
Hope this helps,
- Andrew |

It does look nice. Some parts look a bit charicature like and I don't mean they look fake or anything. Just that they have a bit more "style" than realism. What Andrew said is good stuff.
May I ask where you are going to school?
Again, nice drawing hope to see more from you.

International Academy of Art in Tampa, in the Computer Animation degree program. My classes so far consist of Fundamentals of Design (which this is project for), Animation Basics, History and Business of Animation and a general course of Interpersonal Communication; all while working 40+ hours a week too.. I'm sleepy to say the least.
Thanks for the crits; I'm gonna redo it again after I turn this one in, just because I know there's stuff to work on whether or not I get graded on it; it won't hurt to do it and learn from it.
Thanks ![](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) |
