Whenever I sit down and do a digital painting in color, I try pretty hard to follow the coloring techniques I've learned from this board. I reflect light, try to do different texturing but all that doesn't show up in the final work. My paintings always look dull and flat. Am I painting too grayish? Or mixing desaturated and saturated colors wrong? Do I need more contrast? It just doesn't look right, and I hate it. It's been a while since I painted but here's one I did last night. If someone can do a repaint on any wrong values I would be very happy. Thanks.

I think it might be your figure ground relationships. try making the background darker on the side of the figure where the light is coming from. Study some good paintings, like sargent.

And just my 2 cents to add, other than this looks awesome, is to rotate the axe down more to where it is laying on his shoulder instead of just "floating" or being held up like that. Did that make sense?

Good job!

image redone:

I tried to get the colors right this time. I'm not even sure what I'm doing, but it more natural and has a better atmosphere, and I'm trying to figure out how to take this one step further and put in details, though I've been trying for quite a while and I'm too tired to do anymore work today. I think I've been playing too many textured 3d games.
