Depends on how much of a challenge you're looking for...me, I'd put a mule train struggling up the mountain.

No no no no no, ;-) make a fantasy related picture out of it. Put a party of adventurers there, or a guy on a horse, or a big dragon, or just a small hut with maybe a guy near by chopping wood...

In all cases put a few trees somewhere. And maybe foot prints, and a Yeti... okay, I better stop now :-)

Hi, looking like a great start there. Id recommend making the shadows contrast a lot higher. The shadow is a grey colour it could be grey if you were looking through and seeing the otherside of the mountain, but there youre seeing a void, either make it pitch black and match the scene to it or add some detail under there. If you also use the smudge too creatively, you can squidge youre brush strokes together to give it a more "real" look, but if you want it to look painted then leave as is. Looking good, get some characters and scenery in there and youve got yourself an image.

Decided to have a quick go at it 2 sec sketch over. Added some sunset light to add a bit more atmosphere. You can then reflect that colour in the snow to give it a nice dusk look to it and give the whole image a bit more depth.

I generally start by establishing the basecolors and shapes. It looks to me like you have used very similar basecolors and then you are working over it with a small light pen. I would make bigger areas of snow and rock first and then add the detail.
Looking at photographs is the best way of getting the eye for it.
