I hope you don't mind, but I've done a quick overpaint to illustrate a couple points. Mine also introduces a whole slew of other problems, but it should work.
The figure loses a lot of coherence because the clothing doesn't follow the complicated twist the torso is taking (chest to our right, hips to our left). The anatomy seemed to be put together at different times, vice laying it out in one fell swoop, then adding the details. There are also pretty big issues with the musculatur. It looks puffy, like he's been at the steroids supermarket (especially the hunchback he's sporting on his right trapezius). It took me a while to figure out what his legs where doing. This could be handled with a value change (more later on this).
In regards to his pose, I'm not sure what sort of emotional state he's in. A stoic face is fine and is valid for many characters, but you can still convey emotion, and two of the most expressive parts of the body are the hands. Well, one's gripping the bow and you've hidden the other from us. I assumed he's in more of an action situation and have him gripping something (if he's on a hill side, it's rocks).
With the rendering, you need to identify a light source before taking the foray into shading. This is probably getting pretty long, so I won't go any farther along this thread.
Please keep trying (not saying this is a failure) and look into some anatomy books. Even if your goal is to make anime style, it will only help. It's very hard to successfully break the rules when you don't know them. |
