1. Marv's death on the first Sin City.
2. hmmm, have to think this one ...
3. Daredevil vs. Bullseye (the one in wich DD breaks Bullseye's spine ).
4. null pointer exception: crossovers suck.
5. Watchmen ... period.

Grendel Khan--Funny: When I first saw this thread last night, Marv's death also popped into my head right away as being the best comic-book death.... I have a little Marv-in-the-electric-chair figurine...its eyes light up and it says 'Is that the best you can do, you pansies?' when you throw the switch....

So....

Best death - Marv, all the way.

Best origin - The Saint of Killers, from 'Preacher'. Or maybe Starr, also from 'Preacher'. Both of them ad...er...interesting...back stories.

Best fight - The whole series 'The Big, Fat Kill' by Frank Miller.

Best crossover - I don't know. I haven't read many crossovers, and I've always found them rather annoying. The Maxx and Pitt one wasn't too bad. I think the WORST one I've seen is the Spawn/Cerebus one. That was pretty sad.

Best storyline - That's a tough one....Possibly Sandman, or V for Vendetta. I like a lot of stories for different reasons.

Yer talkin about Hiroaki Samura.......who's
art I love......Well of course Manji(main character)kicks ass, He's fuckin immortal.
But I wouldn't call his fights("fights").
Manji chops every one up before they even know it.......
So really theres no fight at all........

Hey, I've got the other Marv figure , the one wich he holds Kevin's head. I bought the Electric Chair one to a friend for his birthay, and it kicks ass too.

Now that you mention it, Saint of Killer's origin is great.

I don't read comics but of the few that I have read I'd have to say I really liked Peace on Earth (Superman / written by Paul Dini illustrated by Alex Ross) and The Power of Hope (Capt. Marvel / also written by Paul Dini and illustrated by Alex Ross. The Dini/Ross duo have one other called War on Crime (Batman) but I haven't gotten the chance to read it yet. I also really liked The Dark Knight Returns (Batman / written and illustrated by Frank Miller) alot. Oh yeah, even though it was just part of a really huge (bad) marketing ploy by DC, I also really liked the Funeral for a Friend series.

Unlike Poprockz, I love Superman. He's always been my fav. As you can also tell from what I've listed I really like the sappy tear jerker stories as well. Call me a wuss but that's what I like.

As for the categories, I can't really comment cuz I haven't read enough comics.

THERE'S ANOTHER MARV FIGURE...and I haven't got it? Where can I get it? Is there somewhere online one can order these things?

I'm a complete and utter Sin City addict.... *G* Must...have...Maaaarv.

(I even have a Sin City t-shirt--it's extra large, so it doesn't even come close to fitting me - it hangs down to my knees - but I love it anyway.)

I love The Dark Knight Returns, it's my Second favorite Mini-Series...

I Don't hate Superman, It was just cool to see him get beaten for a change....
Thats why I love The "Batman vs Predator" comic.....cuz Batman looses and comes back to bust the fool open medievil style...

1 Best Death: Lobo in Lobo's Back's Back.
2 Best Origin: Lobo, as described in The Last Czarnian.
3 Best Fight: The build up to Lobo's death in LBB. Or the entire second half of Weapon X.
4 Best Crossover: Crossovers as a whole are generally poor. They're more often than not little more than shallow cash cows. But, of course, there are always exceptions. Batman vs Predator, maybe. No, wait, Batman vs Dredd, but only the first one, because Judge Death Bisley style rocks my world. Oh, no, wait, Batman vs Lobo, with out a doubt. Well, not much of a doubt. What is it with Batman and crossovers, eh? Oh, and of course, the entire Aliens vs Predator range. Did quite well for something that started out as a prop person's joke.
5 Best Storyline... Weapon X.

Oooh... I appear to have a bit of a Lobo fixation. Well... not anymore. It was the typical 'teen against the world' thing, I guess. I outgrew him long ago. He was only any good when Bisley did his stuff, anyway... most of the series was dumbed down pap.

  • 1 Best Death: hmm.. sorry, can't decide.. too many rocking death scenes in my mind
  • 2 Best Origin: Jacky Estacado (The Darkness) and Death Dealer (warhelmets that turn you into immortal zombie warriors rock ^^)
  • 3 Best Fight: the battle in Death Dealer #2, that one where Death Dealer slaughters trough Khronon's army.. i LOVE the scene where he stands on top of thousands of corpses.. huar.. Death Dealer kicks ass..
  • 4 Best Overall Crossover: hmm.. i like two: Batman/Spiderman (vs Carnage and Joker), and X-Men/WildC.A.T.S. Golden Age.. you know, the one with the WWII setting.. where Logan has that claw gauntlet, and not the adamantium claws
  • best Storyline: sorry, 3 favs ,).. The Darkness, Warlands and X-Men Age of Apocalypse

@schabe: you're right, Planet der Erinnerung is awesome.. have to buy them all someday

i think The Punisher (the new 12-issue series
by Ennis and Dillon) was quite good.

Hitman was pretty well-written also.

Oh, and Preacher had a great fight scene, where the Saint of Killers waded through all those soldiers.....

dunno really, havent read much western stuff... what do people recommend?

Mmm...yeah...I remember that scene from 'Preacher'--it had one of the best all-time comic quotes at the end of it: The Saint of Killers stands in the middle of the nuclear blast, and says: 'Not enough gun'.

Another great quote from 'Preacher'--when Starr sees the tanks for the first time: 'I think I have an erection!'

And of course, there's that line Jesse's always giving Tulip 'Until the end of the world.'

and i thought that the she-demon that the angel had sex with looked cool....buts that probably because im male

@ Schabe
Yeah, Planet der Erinnerung( Memory) is fantastic...

Otomos Movie was better than the Comic, imho.

Appleseed has good FightingScenes, but there are better ones...for me Mangas has more dynamic Action sequences...

Hm, SPiderman is a quiete strange idea for a superhero, but its fantastic...

1 Best Death

It's a three way tie and they were all pseudo deaths though.

Batman (Darknight Returns)
Kabuki (Circle of Death)
Phoenix (X-Men, Phoenix Saga)

2 Best Origin

Kabuki. She had more personal issues than an episode of Sally Jessy Raphael.

3 Best Fight

Superman and Batman at the end of The Darkknight Returns.

4 Best Overall Crossover

Batman and Grendel part 1

5 Best Storyline.....period

Darkknight Returns and The Watchmen

umm okay, lets have my vote on this, too:

1.: lots of people after the second impact in neon genesis evangelion? dunno

2.: undoubtedly the puppetmaster in masamune shirow's "the ghost in the shell": an intelligence born out of the mass of information in the world wide web...

3.: ummm... maybe rally vincent vs. her father in kenichi sonodas "gunsmith cats"... but there are other great fights out there...

4.: i dont like crossovers as much

5.: shirow's "the ghost in the shell": what is life?
shirow's "appleseed"

and number 6 for the best athmosphere: sonodas gunsmith cats... just sweet roadmovie style.

Bone
and also Kings and thieves. ( not sure if yall heard of this one...its a weird comic. very experimental...i got a few issues and the guy has no talking throughout except just actions....then 1/2 way of the book theres a fairytale that almost goes along with the actions..its real neat. the drawing style is great too.

http://www.iboxpublishing.com/

used to collect spawn until it turned to crap.( around issue 40.)
