You're doing good ...

Still-life is an excellent place to start ..

Very ... ummm ... "aggressive" crosshatching style, but still interesting. My art teacher insisted that I should try to lift the pencil for every "hatch". Try not to make loops if you can, as it will create funny patterns that distracts the eye and distracts from the drawings ability to create an impression of depth and reality.

Although the still-life motives may not trigger any exuberant fantasies, it IS the best way to learn how to draw. Starting out with simple shapes as you have here, and later moving on to more complex shapes like flowers/trees plaster casts, statues and so on. If only more beginners started this way, rather than jumping straight to the ogres, and failing miserably.
