Hi again-

Here is an update on the cabin. I'm still not satisfied with it at the moment so I'm pushing on. With the holidays and work I haven't had much time to invest in it.

Thanks everyone for your comments:

Probus- The original resolution is 300dpi and the size is w2500 pixels h2865 pixels. I added more contrast to the background changing the composition too. And yes, your right on the chimney so I tweaked it here and there.

gLitterbug,Sumaleth,Morbid Guy- Thank you for the kind words.

Speve-o-matic- I'm using Photoshop 6 on a Mac G4 867mhz.

funkylizard- Thanks for the comments. I bumped up the contrast here and there.

Here is a peek at something else I just started (in progress). It's some kind of gigantic sea creature about to attack a helpless two-man sub.

great pics. the second piece requires a bit more work on achieving the depth... maybe darken the foreground a bit more. the vehicle design is kickass.

Yep, I think you have improved the cabin image. Love the fish one too (although maybe that other eye needs a bit of green glow too).

I didn't realize in the last thread that you were Greg Pro. Always dug the stuff on your web page (even if the pics are too small ) and it's good to see you trying out the digital medium now.

Row.

Hi everyone thanks for responding!

SporQ- What great compliment!! I use to work with CM a long time ago. He is the best by far.

Mr. T- Thanks I'm putting more into the second piece now.

NullTygre,tek9z- Thank you.

Sumaleth- Your right on the eyes and yes that be me. I still love to paint with Cel -Vinyl, but I cannot deny the digital age is here. So, if you can't beat 'em, join 'em.

Outstanding work. I am very impressed. Seems you have got the touch both on paper and on screen. AE2 thinks so too.

your artwork is great, my only concern is that on the cabin peice, the foreground tree is bluryer than the background trees. this causes a conflict in depth in my opinion. try to sharpen up the foreground tree and blur out the background ones instead...great work

Great work, way different style than Craig obviously. Your paintings on your site remind me of my friend Reggie Stanton, did a lot of architectural and design work for the Disney parks. Keep 'em coming, I'll have a critique for your next post. ;]

I disagree with sketchbook! ! I think the blurry tree improves the depth of field. It makes the painting look more like a photograph. Excellent!

I agree with Tarandon
The focal point of a camera can be adjusted by moving the placement of the lenses, like our eyes but in the case of our eyes the "lense" and the eyeball get deformed by muscles.
My point is that if the focal point is set to get a clear view of the cabin, the tree (which is much closer to us) would be "out of focus" and therefore blurred. if the focus was adjusted to the tree the cabin would be blurred instead. There are ways of getting it all in focus...going far away with one of those telescopic lenses would probably do the trick.

I really like that cabin. It looks like one would need a few extra blankets to keep warm in there though
The snow seems to have that unpleasantly wet quality which I've grown to dislike so much.

The fish picture looks a tad "busy" I like the top half but the lower part of it has so many things that compete for attention with the sub.

Cabin's really reminsicent of an Ellenshaw painting I saw some time ago, nice mood and feel to the wintry tone. The critter's about to have some fun, and the environment is cool to pick up on the little tweaks and squibbles, and a sense of Berkey and Mead. There's a feel to attractions in them, could easily imagine each being part of a proposal. I think these are great examples of the thought that if you aren't having fun while doing the work, nobody's gonna enjoy looking at it after.

Hi everyone-

Thanks for your input . This is much fun for me to do this. I have a busy schedule with freelance gigs and this is a good way for me to interact with other artists and get some feedback on my work. I also enjoy the positive response I get for adding my two cents here and there. Please feel free to say what you want here about my stuff. It's nice to collect accolades, but more important is that we analyze what works and what doesn't. All is taken under consideration. So let's have some more fun eh?
