1) Not enough ambient or bounced light in the room. The textures are stark where the light from the window hits it but u dont see them anywhere else. try lowering the light value a bit on the "sunlight".
2) The light from the candle is too bright on the tabletop and it doesn't cast shadows.
Basically, it's just a matter of working thru the contrast. The shadows look stenciled. Even up the light sources a bit and it should be juts fine. |

heh funny, I did something almost exactly like that a month or two ago for school in 3ds max
well, not quite, I spent quite a bit of time on it. It still needs better ambient lighting and a softer shadow. I used a picture from the Elis Island desease ward as reference and it turned into an 18th century bedroom looking thing. |

try softening the light a little. it's almost artificially sharp araound the edges. candles, also, generally emit an uneven an soft light.
