Just got inspired by starting LOTR again and decided that the gift to one of my good girl friends will be a painting I do for her. Since x-mas isn't far away I need to get cracking!

I would normally never post something so early in the painting process but I feel that right now is that last time I will have an "easy" time changing things before I really go into it. She doesn't really have wings they are just decoration. And the background is supposed to be a type of fancy dance/ball/gala of fun. Please, if you see anything really odd let me know! (besides the fact that it is ugly right now =/ )

If you have any technique or tips on how to continue with the dress and wings I would REALLY appreciate it. Like I said everything right now are just "placeholders"

Thanks you very much!

the only thing that jumps out so far is that the head seems a bit too small for the rest of the body. upper arm may be a little thick too. could be really cool, post the end result

Yes I am going to bite the bullet and give myself one harmless bump. I think I deserve the bump cause Marshall kinda bumped mine down a bit. And I am really in a pinch. Harsh critiques encouraged! Not sure how I want to continue on the BG or if I even want it there now. If you have any ideas on ANYTHING just yell. Here is updated version:

Thanks again,

I made a small work-over on the pose, hope you don't mind. I'm not telling you I'm an expert on anatomy, but I still felt like drawing it over.

Edit: Oh, and made a version for the second one too - didn't notice the post early enough. There's a slight difference in scale between the the outlines and the elf in the pics, but that's just because I figured you wanted the figure to be as tall as she is in your pic.

Oh my Marvel! Thank you so much for your help. Seriously love what you have done. It seems that as soon as I kind of start liking something I am doing I "tighten" up afraid of making a mistake. but tightening up just makes it stiff.

In your version did you start using softer edged brushes or did you just loosen up with the hard edged ones? ok time to get cracking again.

Thanks again!

Erm, I actually have only used hard edged brushes, but I used them 'with' airbrush (5%, 10%, 15%, 25% or so). Also I did it so that I drew the skin, dress and hair areas with a single color (a dark one) and then drew the hi-lites and shadow areas on top of them. ... and only after that drew the background into a layer below the previous ones. And about brush sizes, I guess I used 5, 12, 18 and 32 or so.

Edit: removed some excess hoping and helping.
