I'm in Florida now .. in about a month I'm going to be on my way up towards chicago, then to toronto, then to boston/nyc, then back home along the coast. all in all it'll be about 3 and a half weeks.
the problem, however, is where to sleep. I won't have enough money to ge hotels, and rest stops don't allow you to sleep there. I'm thinking campgrounds, which I'll start looking at in the next few days so I can plan how long I'll be driving each day etc. Anybody else done this and have any tips or suggestions to give me?
The actual drive I'll be doing alone, though I'll be stopping all along the trip to see friends and family. |

I took a roadtrip from FL (Pensacola) to CA (Montery) and made many stops along the way (Roswell, Grand Canyon, Las Vegas. . .) and it was great fun. I'm sure you will enjoy yourself. Sometimes I stayed at hotels, but when there was no money, I would park in the parking lots of Wal-Mart. They usually have parking lot security, and they actually encourage people to spend the nights in thier parking lots (However I think they had people traveling in RV's in mind, not some punk kids in a dirty-ass Dodge Spirit, and no money). Perhaps not the safest place to stay, but I've done worst (I once fell asleep behind some abandoned gas station during a heavy rain storm. when I woke up the parking lot was flooded and some red-neck kids where shooting bottle rockets at my windows). If you try this, don't forget to lock your doors. Also ther are alot of rest areas (some actually do allow you to sleep there) and Mecha-gas-stations (you know, the kind where truckers go to take showers) that have lines of parked semi's with sleeping truckers. Just pull up next to one and goto sleep. People will think you are so crazy, they won't dare mess with you.
Use these suggestions at your own risk, and please remember to lock your doors. |

I read this and thought it was like one of those math questions...
A train leaves chicago at 4:00am with 12 people on it. Another train leaves tampa at 6:00am with 24 people on it.
So who is johnnies mother... |
