Im still new at this, and dont have a wacom yet. But here is my first attempt at a painting.
Its hosted on homestead so the load will probably be slow, sorry!
Its not even close to finished, but Im not sure what Im missing, the painting just dosent "feel" right. I havent started on a background yet, but the fish itself just feels, I dunno, flat maybe.
Any help would be appreciated! |

Something that's really making it look 2D for me is that the fish's right fin is the same shade as his left one.. that needs some darker shading definately, the left fin needs more highlights as well.
I do like those subtle scales on the fish's body, they are good |

Googly eyes - something near and dear to my heart! Well, it basically needs more shading and rendering. Also, the eyeballs are perfect spheres. Draw in some yellow skin that surrounds the eye so it looks like the eye balls are part of the fish and not floating above him. If you want to get technical, you would not see the eye on the opposite site at all. Try just putting a smaller lump of yellow where the eye would be. I know I know - it's a cartoon.
It's OK to start with basic shapes, but their form should be tweaked so they don't look so geometric. Make the body blend into the rear fins so that the fish has more of a teardrop shape rather than an oval.
Cute little fish - now just finish it!
