Here's something I want to look a little bit like a Playboy spread, but also have a sci-fi flavor to it. (Just in case it isn't clear, she's an android repairing herself.) Any suggestions?

Impressive! I think what I might do is have her using the mirror to see what she's working on. I imagine it would be difficult to get a good view of that spot on one's own chest, and she does have a mirror right there.

I think it would also be kind of neat to mostly see her back in silhouette (sort of back lit maybe) in the illustration, but see her face and front in the mirror in more direct light. Well, that's just some toughts I had seeing this image.

Really nice work, I've been a fan of your stuff for a while.

Thanks guys. Francis: damn good idea, reversing the situation, hadn't thought of that. That DOES make a better image, I think. I'll try it. Another benefit - she can look straighter ahead, into the mirror, to see the work area better, this will give us a better look at her face too!

ARG - I just realized the mirror is wrong in this image, you'd never get a reflection squished by perspective that way! Oops.

BTW, I got it that she was working on herself, but I think there should be more detail in the work area. I would love to see what she's fixing.

I have always loved your work and I always thought Ariana was a fox.

Wow. Impressive as always.

I like the idea of being able to see what she's working on exactly. I'm more of a sentimental person, so I envision her fixing her heart, and the heart maybe has a LCD or some kind of indicator on it, and it reads different emotions. Her emotion is currently on "melancholy," or "heartbroken," and she's trying to heal her heart. . ..

*sigh* Yeah, I know. I'm like a girly-man, all sensitive and shit. . ..

fix that shadow or line or whatever going through her right breast (our left) and maybe smooth out her eyelids... they look rather plastic

well first time i think it's just a girl trying to burn some tattoo... but she's android... if so maybe add more 'mecanics' into the 'tools' she using? something like in 'Ghost in the Shell' style.

Very cool. But not much says Android. Maybe do a little a la Shirow and open of the arms or some part of flesh to reveal the inner workings, so viewers will have a better understanding of the setting. (Also, she doesn't look very damaged, so repairing doesn't come to mind right away).

Picky stuff.. Nice render!!!!!!!

Great model Steven, really like her. I agree with Francis' comments; as you pointed out, such a change would have many benefits on the image. =) Nice work as always!

heh I just saw your site a month ago, drop dead gorgeous work... not much to say about help though, some sort of opening would help the look of it, maybe even have the repair tool somehow connect to her... I know most of your androids really have no diffrence from humans, but if she's repairing, she's got to go inside somehow...
other than that, I like frost's Idea about the shilouette

I think its so cool that youve joined these forums. Ive been a big fan for years, your one of my main inspirations for getting into 3d.

about the pic, yeh you should do the mirror thing. If you keep it the way it is I would make her look down more, to me it doesnt seem like shes quite looking at what shes working on.

Great image, another one of your beautiful women but there are a couple of things that aren't too clear to me though.
The red area where she's working on herself. Is the red supposed to be her insides or is it the glow from the the tools?
And even though I can see that she isn't human by what she's doing to herself I think that it needs to be made more evident that she's an android. Maybe having her jacked into a computer via some sort of link.

I hate being the dumbass, but was this done with a 3d package or a combo of 2d or 3d or just 2d? It's beautiful.

Lovely work. Great input by Francis. Still, I like the distortion in the reflection. Reality is suspended as it is. You probably had a reference for the model, but the breasts seem too close together IMO. Also the right wrist/forearm and hand could use some smoothing, as the planes appear too defined.

Fantastic piece.

Thanks guys. This was done using Maya which is a 3d software. Not done using reference in the traditional sense as an illustrator might think of it - I didn't have an image of a woman in that pose. I have used many different references over the years, dozens and dozens, to model this body and face.

Yes I should make the hole bigger and have some cooler bigger tools, and loose the smoke. I'm working on it.

Tepox - an android series is a very good idea, especially since I've written a screenplay on the subject, they would go nicely together. I've been thinking about it...
Hej Mongi - jag hoppas vi kan ses igen!
Anthony - yes I know Ryan, an excellent 3d artist. To see a close up of the girl's face, you can go to my site: http://www.optidigit.com/stevens

Hey Steven, your recent stuff has really improved(on the 3d side). It'd be nice to see a close up of the face, to see how your skin textures are being treated by Maya. :] I think you know my good friend, Ryan Duncan, don't you?

Just a couple things I see that are a little weird..

I think the breasts are too close together imo. I dunno.. maybe it's just the perspective throwing it off.

Secondly, not sure what the red smoke effect is doing for the image.. dunno maybe it's just the idea of pure red smoke.. what if the area showed a little of what was inside of her that she was working on and have the inside giving off a red glow (so the face goes along still) and have normal colored smoke coming out or something? I kinda think that would look somewhat better.

Hope something I said was helpful in some way. hehe

Thanks everybody, I'm tired and gotta get up REAL early tomorrow so I won't list everybody, but for sure I will redo this image completely in a few days, using all the advice, and show you all.

Now I might not post anything for 3 days, because tomorrow morning I'm flying up to the grand opening of the Frank Frazetta museum, be back on the 10th. (It's an event where we worshipping fans will hopefully get to finally meet our hero... yeah I know kinda pathetic but hey... it's Frank!)

Heya Steven,
Great work as usual!!! Really fab.
The thing I like most (not trying to be a perv) is the execution of her pubic hair. I think it's very sexy.
Her face seems a bit unfocused...but then again, it's difficult to work on your own chest like that. To see more of her face, maybe have her pulling some wires out to several inches in front of her chest and examining them. Still a tight angle, but will let her see a little what she's doing, while allowing to see her face. The way one sometimes turns a necklace around and pulls the clasp out to front to fasten...
Just two cents.
Shes looking so fab though.

How's Frank Feeling, Steven?
He was really sick about a year ago. He was supposed to come down to the Society of Illustrators to accept an award, but was too ill.
Have fun!

I just love a girl who groomes well. It may appear clearer though if her damage is more obvious. I agree that she should utilise the mirror to see what shes doing. Perhaps a diagnostic console could be attatched to her by a conduit or she could have a small set of eletronic or mechanical tools in a "medicine" box. Something like that. lovely work though. great environment.
