It would certainly be worth you resizing that image for the web and putting some more compression on it. 600k images that takes up two screens are a bit wasteful.

Hey Cheiron:
I'm the one that colored that pic for you the first time. My suggestions, if you are looking to make it more realistic looking, is to blend the heavy black lines in with the color using the smudge tool. Also, think of the different parts of the face as individual shapes, and once you select your light source think about how it would affect those different shapes. This will help you in defining your shadow and highlight areas. For a good reference, look in the mirror, and take a lamp and hold it at different places and see how the lighting affects the shadows on your face. Pick one view you like and apply it to your illustration.
Hope that helps ![](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) |

Hey Cheiron:
I'm sorry, thought you were looking for general comments.
Regarding the skin tone, one thing I was taught in my airbrush class back when I was in school is that you should never (unless it is very intentional) use black in skin tones. It never appears naturally.
My suggestion to you is to pick a medium skin tone, add it to your swatch pallette, and then go to your color picker and pick several colors above and below your medium skin tone, being sure to stay away from the left side of the picker where black gets added to the colors. Add all these colors to your swatch pallette. Color the face using the medium color first. Then, using the lighting information I mentioned above, start picking the darker colors you added to your pallette for the shadows, and the lighter colors for the hilights.
Make sure to assess your image first and determine what your darkest shadows will be and your lightest hilights. Not every shadow has the same value. For the image that you have above, I would use at least a range of 8-10 different shades of your main color.
Hope this helps! ![](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) |

I'm sure I've seen a few along the way somewhere, but to be honest I don't know of any off the top of my head. Hopefully someone else will be able to help you with that.
Make sure to post your pic as you make progress. I'm interested to see it. |
