decided to start this "viktor" character last night - pretty bad timing considering im in the middle of my final school exams (no more MATHS !! *yay*) - anyway - i was planning on colouring him in (once i've finished the outline ofcourse) - but im not exacly sure what the best way to approach this would be..
i will be digitalising some of my traditional works (and chucking them in a web page)after these rechid exams are over - so hopefully i will post here more frequently.
prelim sketch

the face is excellent. well, it's all quite good, but i stared at the face the most ;]
one thing that could be 'fixed' is the nose- it seems to be bent quite a bit to his right, tho that could have been intended.

icannon: yeah i accidently (or intentionally, i cant remember) rubbed out the line that indicated the bottom ridge of his nose .. it still looks alittle monged, but less monged if that small line is there.

Hi there, so you're doing the HSC aswell? What date do you finish? My last exam is on the 9th.. Only 10 days to go...
I'm so glad maths is over, it's my worst subject and I hate it so much.

As for your pic, it looks great, I love the face and the details and line quality is really nice and free. Hope to see more of your work!

yeah mines on the 9th too, art i asume

yeah maths suxs balls, one of my friends has already destroyed his calculator by running over it in his car (actually took awhile). I plan on superceeding his efforts and do something more drastic - drop it off a tall building with explosives strapped to it set to detinate half way down, amoungst other things come to mind..

Yep it's art.

hahaha!! That calculator thing would be good, especially after that exam. My whole grade found the test unusually hard and everyone was pissed off about it afterwards.

My friends and I are going camping in the holidays. We're going to make a fire and burn all our school books. Ahh it's gonna be sweet.

BTW: are you going to Uni? If you are what courses are you looking into? Any arty things?

Ahh alright. Same here.
My 1st preference was Digital Media at NSW.
But the UAI needed is 91 which is really high. I doubt I will get it, especially after maths....

yeah, gotta friend taht does digital media - when he got in i think it was 85, but there is lots of demand for it, so subsequently the cutofs get higher. Im sure in a couple of years they'll figure out that people getting 90> uai's arent necissarily the people that would suit the course and they'll impliment a system where students have to hand in portfolio etc etc

Wow, they don't look at portfolios? That's nuts... Not to say that looking at grades is a bad idea(though just looking at averages is)

You really need to look at the overall deal, and an interview is pretty key too...

They do have some sort of interview process at least I would imagine.

Shit, when I did mine, we had to do a life drawing test and present a portfolio to a bunch of the program faculty. And there is no way they just looked at my average

good luck to you guys

I think it's awesome ..
Gotta love the face.

My only "problem" is the shield and shieldarm. The shield looks hollow and doesn't seem to connect to the shieldarm. He's holding that strap but most shields have another strap that the arms goes through. And the back of the shield touches the arm. I don't know if i made any sense there but it kept bothering me when looking at that picture.

But it's superb. I love it

Wow, excellent!
But there's something about his pose, I can't say he looks like he's leaning on that sword. In fact his pose looks a bit funny, like he's just lifting both arms and saying 'I seem to be falling over sideways, oh well, here I go...' or something.
He looks tired and nostalgic, he looks like he should be leaning heavily on something, and the shield arm would be just dragging, hanging straight down. Maybe if you did a full-body sketch of him you could resolve his stance?

bibble: heh, yeah the sheild "arm" and the whole sheild thing just looks pretty average, i didnt really spend much time on it and i just got pissed off coz by that point i knew i had made the fatal mistake of rendering it in greyscale when the original purpose of the image was to give it a rich coat of colour (similar to the rifleman dwarf looking creature on the warcraft3 conceptual drawings). I probably should have used a refrence with the sheild aswell.

Steven: originally i was going to have him with his arm wrapped around a felow soldier, maybe because he was wounded or something.. i did think while i was drawing the hand that it was way too "loose" and that it didnt really look like much pressure was being applied to it, almost like it was dangling or something .. and as for the sheild arm i totally agree, not only is it a super cliche, but it doesnt really make sense that he is holding this metallic sheild upright when he is so fatigued etc etc. . i will probabably just draw a new one and take all of those things into consideration .. and yeah .. conceptual drawings usually tend to feature the entire body so i'll probably do that too .. thanx for the comments guys, really helps
