i think its pretty safe to say i have no idea what im doing, uh... i decided i was going to start learning how to paint this week, and here are the results of a days work...:

You've off to a reasonable start with the painting. I tend to suspect that you did this all digitally. I still think there is merit in sketching and image on paper and then scanning it (each to their own though).
Try to start refining the lines a bit. At the moment it looks like you've laid down lines but haven't actually gone over them. Also try to add in some shadows. Try not to use a soft edged brush as it will give you that bluriness quality to it like you have on the t-shirts.
I've gone through and overpainted a couple of sections. In particular the t-shirt and one of the faces. This was very quick and you'll have to excuse the crudeness as I haven't painted anything in months and it shows.
The main thing you'll notice is a build up of tone rather than using hard black lines. Start laying down large sweeping brush strokes, followed by smaller ones and lighter / darken the stroke. This was the general idea I followed on the face. Hopefully this is of some use.
