Haven't posted in a while. . .

I wanted to do a digital still life, so I took this wooden sculpture of a buddah that I had lying around and sat him next to my monitor and began to draw . . . many many hours later . . .

It's almost done. Just the little details left.

That attention to detail is impressive! The piece comes in a little dark on my computer so it makes we wonder about your gamma setting. I can't make out any of the details on the ground-plane, but when I adjust it in PS I can see there's some work there.

Thanks for the comments Pat.

Yeah, I was also thinking it was looking a bit dark (I've only been painting it in the evenings, to keep the lighting consistent), but it's such a strange matte black desk that I work on, so I was only trying to get the most subtle hint of reflections and shadows across, perhaps it's a little too subtle. I'll mess around with that aspect. If I do boost the brightness down there, I'll definately have to tighten up the detail on the desk.

Wow. I'm really impressed.

You captured the subtle reflective qualities of all those different surfaces. The way the table top just sucks in the light.... The flatness of the stucco(?) wall... I really love your treatment of the wood. The little edgy highlights here and there are so accurate.

I personally wouldn't do much else with it. That big grey shape on the right feels really flat compared to everything else, but that's it. Really nice!

Thanks alot for the comments Michael!
(I love the style of your work btw.)

Yeah, the grey area on the right still needs to be finished, along with a couple of smaller areas. I'll post the completed version tonight.

Here is an updated version.

I finished adding details to the shadowed area of the wall to the right, and other parts of the wall, I also tweeked a few areas on the buddah and I added a few more shadows. Almost finished? I think so.

Wow, that's really looking good not that far fom a photo. Only the dark line right of the nose and the dark part of the mouth look a very little bit strange to me.
In spite of that awesome work!!!

Goody goody

This is one of my favorite pieces posted here in a long time! The wood is just dead on.

Wow, very very nice. I am impressed.
A very cool subject matter, and I think you handled it really well. I love all of the texture and "grit"

Nice style...

Thank you all for your comments, I'm glad that you like this piece.

I wanted to work on it last night, but I went to see Final Fantasy instead . . . so I'll be finishing it off tonight, and I'll post it up here once it's done. Not alot left to do, if anything.
