I am having trouble getting the skin on this to look like real skin, looks too plastic...can somebody tell me a good way to get the skin to look all blotchy, but still have the carved muscle look?

THanks.

This is really good. What software are you using, because if you're using painter I may be able to help you out. Essential whenever I want to make something appear to be rough and wheathered, I use the water color tools. I increase the grain a little and paint over it lightly and use the diffuse water to do the areas where I want it to have a little more texture and that basic look an feel. I hope this helps.

Check out my (playful little scamp) post in the works in progress section. This is sort of what I mean.

This is done in marker, no software yet. I figure I will pop it into photoshop after. I am just having difficulty getting the marker to look good, looks like is was done my a dead monkey right now.

hmmm...why are u so complaining about the skin color...i think that clor fits that pic and a character like that should have a skin like a normal human being...and your marker technique is very good..and if u still need to change the tones of the color used karisma pencils..they work great on markers and watercolors...u can make great textures and shadings with them...

Did you try a colorless blender? This could improve the look. But from my experience it works best if you use it first and then work in with the normal markers. Im not a markermaster myself, but the use of this technique helped me expanding the possibilities of this media.

But your picture looks not bad at all, like it is now.

Oh my!
Very, very impressive!
Don't worry about glossiness - after finishing this picture, try to work up it in photoshop, dodge/burn tools, etc.

Just outstanding.
