StoneAge
This is a low-res image that I'm planning on using in a flash website. I was hoping I could get your opinions on what I should do with the navigation buttons.
Thanks. |

The moment you said you were going to use popups to solve the problem. I thought thats a bad move. One of my pet hates is flash sites which pop up pages all over the place. (Not ads) I mean real content pages but the design with flash often means theres not enough room to do something so they pop up a new window to do it.
For me the visitor, its annoying to have to be shuffling through new windows and new users get confused too.
I think if the design doesnt work for your content, then a good move would be to change the design until it does.
I dont normally do these interface sites but I`m actually working on one right now so I appreciate the problems.
As for your links. I think texturing them was maybe not the best idea. Or more subtle texturing. Its difficult to texture small type isnt it and still keep it legible. Maybe choosing a nice solid compliment colour for the text and making it receed into the stone on rollover. That way you get a nice cool sticky effect but the links look highly legible.
Would like to see where you go with it. |

Hi...
i dont like the links too... sorry, they look too ahm... no, they dont fit into the design. Eyerthing looks weathered and old, but the buttons are curved out with a machine...
Maybe you can use these paintings(animals or ancient sybols) as links... or these indiana jones style stuff levers.
or the stone is broken up into little pieces on the border and you can presse these for navigating around...
Hmmm... or to give it an other touch, add some Metal on the left side with some strange alien symbols.... whatever...
Hope that helps a little bit
i have to take a shower now an the sleeping...
Good n8

This interface looks pretty good. I'm just a little concerned about the practicality. In a perfect world where everyone has cable modems, no worries. Unfortunately I think it may be a little too graphic heavy and people will never hang around to see what is going on. I think if you had a border that was about 1cm wide with a bit more at the top and for the links, it could work well.
I agree the links need work. Maybe try for more of a handwritten font and try a lighter drop shadow colour (rather than black) to really make the links stand out and seem less blurry. |

Yeah, nice texture, it looks very photo-real. I'd make the text more readable though, especially on top. And the inside black area does seem a bit small. |

Hi,
I dont know if the final site will be compressed to the level of this jpeg. I hope not, its pretty blurry, especially the text. Feels like it needs the drop shadows, in fact all deeper shades making stronger, blacker and raising the text values so theres more of a contrast. So the lettering stands out more.
Just a thought.
Looks pretty cool though. Have to agree with the above post about not having much room for content, always a problem with these image based layouts. I`d like to see it working. |

I appreciate the comments.
This is the low res. version(25% jpeg); it will definetly be larger and more defined.
I plan to enlarge the center area and use popup pages to display the artwork and stuff.
I'm unhappy with the links and would like some opinions on what might look better.
Thanks again. |
