The shapes are cool, but I think you should work on the textures... Put some shades and corrotion colors on it...but that's just me, I like stuff like that to look used and old ;-)

Thanks EBOY, but I was going for a more shiny and polished look to it. However corrotion textures dues sound like a good idea, but alas i am not good with rust and things like that, not sure how to make it work with it. |

a good way to get textures for just about anything (if you want the texture without having to draw it!) is to find a good texture library. there's a good, and free, one here: http://www.3dcafe.com/asp/textures.asp
just put the texture on a layer over yours, set the layer style to "multiply" or "screen" and mask out or delete portions that don't fit. good luck! looks cool! |

I just simply would stay away from those futuristic metal navigations, they have a tendancy to ruin any thought-out web design. Not only are they a tad unoriginal (not to attack you, but you have to admit that there are a billion of these), but they also seperate the navigation from the design, which should not be the case, the navigation should be a FOCAL of the design, but not a seperate, unrelated piece. Even if the rest of the design were to be metallic like this, it would still be all segmented I'm sure. Where's the logo on your site going? The top probably? Those top logo, left hand navigations are really something you should stay away from, unless you happen to be doing design work for a client, and they request something like that *shudder*. Anyway, just my experience, years ago I used to do little navigations like this, so I'm just trying to straighten you out a bit early, you'll thank me in a year, I promise :)
(It does look good by the way, just a little too photoshop-obvious on the pipes in the background. You should also line up the screws, so they don't look uneven.) |

Well, thats my first try at rust. I dont think it looks too bad. Maybe a diferent color.
Scoop- Thanks for the advice. I'm not a profetional or anyting, I just have alot of art work and 3d renders so I thought that i should make a nice looking page to put them on. I dont have much experience with web page building so I dont really know where to start. So I thought I'd bang out a nav design to work with. I'm not sure of the best way to build a web page. (or if there is a best way). |
