Hey, crymsonshadow here. This is my first post after being a local haunt for about a month. I've seen some awesome art here and decided to throw in my stuff for crit in hopes of someday being up to par with the rest of you. Anyway, here's my pic.
I started with a very rough sketch using a pic of Chandra North in an old Sports Illustrated mag. I can post that here too if you want to see see it. Anyway, give me what you got. I want to do whatever I can to make this look good. Did I mention that I've never even attempted to make anything like this?
**UPDATE** I added some hair, not done of course. I fixed a problem with the eyelashes and some lighting on the forehead, as well as a few little things with the shading. Honestly, I think this piece will always be a WIP, since I'm still learning how to do mostly everything. -END

sup crymson, fist off, what the .. is a haunt. You been haunting some locals? jk, The pic isn't all bad. you need to work on some fundamentals of drawing. I'd go off with a pencil a bit before you get into why the painting is off. it's the lighting, the hard lines on the lips, the lack of any shadow on the ear, the lack of form on the eyelid. Read about it, the values, how they fall on basic shapes, all the mess. and then keep doing it.
take care

I've been working at all of the above. Regarding the ear, I've never drawn an ear before, much less shaded one. All I had to go by was a simple outline for the ear, so I had to do a lot of guessing (mostly comparing what I did with the photo). I plan to do much more with the ear before I call this finished. As far as the hard outline on the lips goes, that can be done away with, because the skin and the lips are on two different layers (lips being the upper layer and set on multiply). There is a little too much overlap, resulting in the line you see. Lighting: The lighting is pretty much true to the picture (which I will scan and provide a link to), although a little more obvious in my version. The eyelids and lashes I did fix, or at least improved.

Great, so it isn't just me. On my other computer, the colors look fine, but on this one, she looks just as you say...orange. Thanks for telling me. Now I can adjust the colors and make it look right. |
