I did this with acrylic paint. I only used 4 colors for the entire thing so far. Anyway, it's a new technique for me, wanted all of your opinions on it please.

i think the colors of your sky are too contrasty and dark, and when you start painting that little island you'll notice it wont stick out as it should. i say paint the rest, and if the result doesnt look nice just repaint the sky with much lighter shades.

Thanks for the responce, I am going to go paint the island right now and see how it turns out. The sky took me three days, like 6 hours all together. I really hope I don't have to repaint it. I would rather see the island go before my sky. Thanks again.

lol, yeah, I'm sure they're acrylics. hehe. Thanks for replying though. I think you were right. damn me. I guess I should have thought before I did it. Here is my result. Of course, it's not done. It needs refining.

hmm did you want the rough textures .. you can dilute the paint with water to get smoother surface instead of STRAIGHt taking it out of the tube...

I think the colours at too subtle.. kinda looks like a paint by number painting in a way.. Other than that nice try for a first acrylic or one of your first.. keep at it

Okay guy. I'm no expert on acrylics, but I'll try and offer as much help as I can.

You seem to be using a bit too much paint. I can see lil' globs here and there. Thin it out, use a little bit of water. Try to keep it a little thinner. It'll use up less paint, and should help tighten up the whole piece.

Tone down the water! In comparing it to the photo, the problem seems to be that you have too much color variation. The water closest to us is darker and more muted, and as it gets further back it becomes bright and harsh. It's pulling the focus away from the foreground and is killing the perspective on the water. Make it a little more uniformly colored, and tone it down a little. Look carefully at the colors in the photo for that.

There you go guy. Not much, but I've only done a few acrylic paintings myself and I'm just telling you what looks off from another beginner's point of view. Hope it helps a little.

The sand would look exponentially better if it blended gradually into the water rather than ending abruptly.
